This is super interesting - I too am guilty of grouping seabirds into the 'seagull' umbrella πŸ˜‚. I'll have to pay good attention when looking out the window now.

They are often colloquially referred to as β€˜seagulls’, but did you know that there are several unique species of gull that breed in Scotland, all of which are struggling. In today’s blog, we take a closer look at the five most encountered species, including tips for identification and what the evidence tells us about how each species is faring: https://orlo.uk/QR92l

4th year running. Thank you, to every guest that takes time to leave a review. It really, really does mean so much, not only to boost my confidence, but it's instrumental in getting us recognised for our endeavours.

With a overall guest review score of 9.9 out of 10 from 83 reviews, it is incredible and humbling and something I'm determined to continue; my aim will always be that every guest knows they are special, and feel like our first guests, even through we've been doing this for years.

So, thank you, truly. ###

As it's Burns Night and Eliza doesn't care for haggis, I've asked Dad for the Soutar Family's Scottish tablet recipe.

If you haven't tried tablet, it's a bit like a hard crumbly fudge, and can melt yer teeth from across a room!

I haven't made tablet for a very long time, mostly because I haven't had 30 minutes to spare to stand stirring a pot - but it's an absolute favourite in this house so it won't last long, I've not let it brown enough really, so I'm hoping it will be OK.... lets face it, with 2lb of sugar and a half pound of butter, I'm absolutely certain we will enjoy eating it, regardless 😊.

Happy Burns day, lang mae yer lum reek!

Hi folks we need your help! Please, PLEASE OBJECT TO THE BROADFORD CAMP.

It's SIMPLE to do just email [email protected]

ANYONE CAN OBJECT, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIVE HERE. THANK YOU, ### Lori

Our wee village has been named at a site for Two workers camps for 800 persons and 400+ cars. One in Broadford the other just outside Breakish.

OBJECT TODAY BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.

EMAIL [email protected].

USE THIS HEADING.
"Objection to Broadford Temporary Workers Camp: HC 24/05143/FUL"

IMPORTANT TO Include your name, address and postcode on the email.

Then say why you object eg:

IT is inappropriate to site a 350 bed workers camp on the edge of Broadford. It will result in a 25% population increase for the village, putting further pressure on already limited resources such as health care. The location of the site will cause contamination to the Broadford River from surface water run off and treated effluent and the site is at risk of flooding. The camp will change a rural area, recently planted with broad leaf trees through a government grant, into a brownfield site and will significantly impact nearby residential properties.

JOB DONE!! Thank you so much.

Took a wee stroll along the shore to my favourite spot this morning. It was so calm and I was able to sit, to listen and watch the seabirds, while Maisie took herself a wee swim. Happy Place!

For the months of February and March 2025, we have changed our booking settings from 3 nights minimum to 2 nights.

We know this time of year is excellent for hillwalking and hiking, and often times you only have a weekend to squeeze in a walk. Hopefully this will allow more flexibility, with the added bonus of avoiding the peak season crowds.

Book direct using [email protected]

or use one of the platforms ie B.Com or Abnb.

It's absolutely breathtaking this morning. The colours are wonderful. It's definitely a day for truly celebrating this glorious place we call home.

A family walk is planned, with a swim for Maisie; it's time to blow away the cobwebs from the sloth like festive period, and embrace 2025 and all she has in store.

We took ourselves off to visit family down in the Central belt this week, it was a flying visit but we squeezed in some daft fun. Here's Eliza and I enjoying a festive selfie. It was so nice to see family, but we definitely aren't city folks, we will be glad to get home to the quiet life and to mad Maisie, the cats and of course, the chickens!
