Highley Signal Box was recommissioned 50 years ago today on 2 March 1974, prior to the recommencement of services from Bridgnorth to Highley in April of that year.

The Box is much older than that though! It is an original McKenzie and Holland Type 3 signal box, built in 1883. Apart from alterations to the interlocking of the Lever Frame, it has changed very little in all that time. Closed by BR in 1969, it was acquired by the SVR in December 1972.

If you're passing through Highley on the train today, give the signalman a wave!
