Welcome to the 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group page.

This is our public access profile on Facebook. On here we will post events, news, and more. 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group is part of Shropshire Severn and Teme District, which is part of Shropshire Country Scouts. We are a local charitable association aimed at offering young people a variety of experiences, opportunities to grow and develop, outdoor activities and adventures, and a sense of belonging

to a worldwide organisation made up of thousands of members.

“The Scout Association is the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6- to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities. Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world. Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.” (The Scout Association 2015)

At 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group we have sections for children ages between 6-14 years of age. Beavers:
Boys and Girls aged between 6 – 8 Years

Cubs:
Boys and Girls aged between 8 – 10 1/2 Years

Scouts:
Boys and Girls aged between 10 1/2 – 14 Years

We also have opportunities for adults to volunteer as helpers and uniformed leaders. Without volunteers 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group could not run. Volunteers are the backbone of every scout group. On their website the Scout Association says about volunteers:

“This everyday adventure is possible thanks to our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a Group, to being a charity Trustee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship. Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.” (The Scout Association 2015)

If you would like more information on scouting in Bridgnorth, would like to enquire about membership, or more information on being a volunteer please message us and we will be happy to answer any questions you have.

Santa and his Elves were spotted (or more likely heard!) on the Llangollen Canal today. Four new Elves were invested at Trevor Basin, following the Investiture the merry band of helpers paddled their way over the fantastic Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, through the two tunnels and over the Chirk Aqueduct to the Poachers Pub at Chirk. A wonderful outing was had by all 🎅🏻🎄🛶

Thank you we now have a Sparky and Sparkler!

We are really trying to push on the hut build and renovation and are in need of some professional help:

Build Estimator / quantity surveyor - we are at the stage in the build when we need build estimates and costings providing so we can urgently get on with grant funding and building.

Quartermaster - I need someone to sort out our kit! Not an onerous job, someone who likes keeping kit and equipment in order, not necessarily able to repair it all, though that would be useful - someone who likes a tidy garage!

If you think you might be able to help with either of these tasks or would like more information about what would be involved, please let me know ASAP.

Many thanks for your help 😀

Meg

Easy extra funds...just a little help needed 😀

As a charity we are eligible to claim 20% Gift Aid on all the Subs payments you make to the Scout Group. This really is money for nothing - us being able to claim back a little of the taxes you have already paid to HMRC.

To be able to claim this all we need is a signed Gift Aid declaration from the parent of each child in the Scout Group. We can then make claims on the last five years.

So, I have requested OSM to automatically send out Gift Aid forms to all parents who have not already signed them. If you are not a tax payer then please decline the form rather than just ignoring it. If you have more than one child in the group you may need to sign a form per child, please make sure you do this.

Thank you very much for your help with this, we really need to get on with renovating the Scout Hut, and Gift Aid is an easy way of raising funds for us.

Meg ❤️

A group of scouts have answered the calls from concerned residents who were aggrieved at the state of their market town.

Sadly we've made the decision to cancel our stall and procession at Bridgnorth Carnival this year due to the exceptionally bad weather forecasts.

Thank you to everyone for your offers of help, I'll be emailing everyone today to confirm officially & via OSM tonight.

We urgently need a major fundraising push to fund our hut renovations, more details to follow shortly.

It's almost time for our biggest fundraiser of the year - Bridgnorth town carnival 2024.

We'll be joining in the procession once again and running our usual 'have a go at archery' stand.

Along with a huge tombola stall, which is where we need the help of everyone in our 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group community. You can help in two ways;

1. Please comment below if you can help on our stall for one hour or more on 26th May (11-4pm slots available)

2. Donate any new tombola prizes at any session over the next few weeks.

Any questions please email - [email protected]

What a weekend of achievements - so proud of our Young People and leaders! 14 Scouts and Explorers took part in the Shropshire Six Summits challenge, most of them taking on the full Expedition Challenge, carrying all they would need for three days and two nights, over 40 miles and climbing over 2000m up Corndon Hill, Stiperstones, Long Mynd, Caer Caradoc, Brown Clee and finally finishing on Titterstone Clee hill. They were joined on Bank Holiday Monday by other Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts taking part in the Bridgnorth Walk and the Worldwide Scouting TrailJam on Brown Clee hill. An absolutely fantastic effort to all of them!
