so many beautiful places to visit in West Dorset. Why not plan a trip to Abbotsbury while you’re staying at the cottage? not only can you visit the Abbotsbury tropical gardens, you could also walk to St Catherine’s chapel and take in the spectacular views

Set high on a hilltop overlooking Abbotsbury Abbey, this sturdily buttressed and barrel-vaulted 14th-century chapel was built by monks as a place of pilgrimage and retreat.

we’ve been busy filling up the pots and planters on the deck and tidying the border ready for the summer. New charcoal kettle barbecue is now ready and waiting … just need some dry weather 🌦️

Hell Lane near Symondsbury is an ancient holloway or ancient road deep in the Dorset countryside . Theres carvings on the sandstone lane walls and with its old tree roots and high sides it feels other worldly. . it’s a great place for exploring and a great example of one of the many ancient lanes in this beautiful county.

This may be my favourite photo I’ve ever taken! 😮

The flowers, the Milky Way, the Aurora Borealis and Durdle Door in the early hours of this morning, with the symmetry of the colours in the sky and the curve of the clifftop & beach .

I can’t believe how strong the display was last night. After visiting West Bay and seeing the lights above the cliff to the east, I knew we had to go to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door and I’m so glad we did!

It was as good as any night we experienced in Lofoten, Norway last February!

I’ve posted a video from the clifftop in the comments below just to prove that this is real and really happened 😂

Exciting developments at the cottage. Weve been wanting to get the back garden sorted for a while and at last time and finances were aligned! Now guests will be able to sit out after a busy day exploring and enjoy an evening on the deck. It’s been too rainy to do any planting but we’ll sort that later in the spring. New table and four chairs arriving in the next couple of weeks and we’ve also bought a charcoal barbecue for you to cook the days catch if you choose to go out mackerel fishing. It’s our new outdoor room.

Visit Dorset and Dorset Council are delighted to have been involved in a new Channel 5 series called Dorset: Country and Coast which will air tomorrow at 8pm.

It is a six-part series narrated by Alan Titchmarsh which explores Dorset's rolling countryside, visits charming seaside towns and marvels at the dramatic Jurassic coast.

The series will explore Dorset's most iconic sites, uncover lesser-known hidden gems, and examine daily Dorset life through a variety of perspectives, meeting the people of Dorset, from locals to holidaymakers and farmers to wildlife conservationists.

The first episode features Lyme Regis, the Mapperton Estate and Mudeford Sandbank.

We visited recently, such a lovely gem, and only a 15 minute drive from Daisy cottage. Gorgeous shop and cafe , it’s the quintessential chocolate box village location … really recommend trying to fit in a visit during your stay with us

You don’t need to travel too far to see the northern lights it seems , come to Dorset , while the aurora isn’t guaranteed, amazing stargazing definitely is!

I was NOT expecting to see the Aurora Borealis in Dorset last night, let alone this good!

All my apps were showing less than a 10% chance and after sitting on Eype Down for a long time with little to show for it, I moved further down the hill so Colmer's Hill was silhouetted against the sky.

And then between 11pm and 11.30pm it just went crazy and could easily be seen with the naked eye!

Even in the Lofoten Islands, we didn't see the pinks and purples on display last night in Dorset!
