Our annual Guided Writing Week is set for November 8-15th, promising a week of writing insights, craft, and feedback. Also fun, good food and country walks. It’s an intensive weekend workshop with Greg Mosse for residential and non-residential writers, followed by the five day residential course with Jeremy Seal and Jason Goodwin.

Guests at Rushay often ask if we can recommend someone to take over and cook - and we can! Connie Hawker knows this kitchen and she knows how to produce simply delicious dinners and lovely lunches for a few guests, or a crowd.

“I’ve grown up surrounded by food,” Connie says, “learning how it grows, the best way to prepare it and what to cook, when.”

Two views from either end of the heartbreakingly solemn and beautiful little Baptist chapel, a few miles from Rushay. It is one of the earliest in the country, 17th century, and first erected in semi-secrecy by the nonconformists.

Oh, you think, England is tame…and five minutes from Rushay’s front door there lies a true Land that Time Forgot, a place as remote and wild as the Serengeti!! The Landslip at Black Venn is huge, risky, and totally wild, a tangle of untrodden woodland, fractured Earth and a lost cottage, all the way from the tumbling cliffs to the sea.
