Selbrooke House ( accommodation) ( ) has been designed with the planet 🌍 in mind.

This was my journey and I wanted it to be a one. 💭

I felt having served accommodation would mean I could provide a lovely welcoming home to in a way; whilst providing services like fresh bed linen 🛌 and clean towels 🧼 etc.

I really want guests to visit and think ‘WOW’, I need to get myself some of those products or be inspired to furnish their property sustainably.

Here’s just a few sustainable items we put into the property:

Cleaning products are a range of and 🌱 and refillables. Mainly from ‘ecover + method’

Toilet roll is made from bamboo from Naked Sprout

Beautifully handmade dining table is from recycled scaffolding planks, by Riz and Mica Make

Rugs are washable and made with recycled materials from Hug A Home

Throws are recycled and made by OLIVIA ROCCO

SmartTV, new but secondhand from Blaupunkt from a , .

Walls painted in Farrow and Ball Stockist München modern emulsion paint (eco friendly of course).

Curtains and cushions are recycled and from Dunelm

There’s just too many companies to mention in one post. It was a blast furnishing it with new sustainable/vegan/recycled/up-cycled and repurposed items.

🌳 25 ways to make your home ‘Sustainable’ 🌳

When we purchased this property in the summer of 2023, our goal was to make it as sustainable 🌲 🌍 as possible.

🏡 The property had undergone extensive renovation prior to purchase which complied to many sustainable requirements. However, I needed to ensure that it was decorated and furnished to a sustainable standard that I was comfortable with.

⚡️ One of the first things we looked at was the energy source to the property. We purchased solar energy via the National grid from a solar park for all the electricity in the property.

♻️ All our guests are expected to recycle and reuse as well as source, plastic-free foods and they are given lots of guidance when they book on how to do this in the local area.

🛋️ Furnishings were either repurposed, secondhand, or purchased, and any purchases were sustainable. This was the most enjoyable part about getting ready to market the property for lettings and I started sourcing products, two or three months before completion of the purchase.

One of the things that I was adamant that we needed to do was to put in a driveway where the original front garden was. However, I knew that that would create waste so we uplifted the lawn and gave it away as turf. We removed all of the hedges with the roots and gave them away to people looking to replant 🪴. We also gave away equivalent of 40 bags of soil on marketplace. Then we laid an Eco driveway. 🧱 Therefore the driveway has its own ecosystem underneath the top layer of shingles. There is no concrete, nor tarmac at all in our Eco driveway.

We are proud of what we have archieved and hope you will agree it’s a beautiful property.

Happy New Year to everyone who’s liked and followed our journey as we opened up our first vegan serviced accommodation in July 2023.💜

I’ve learnt a lot, I’ve sacrificed a lot and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

Thanks to all who’ve supported me through this property purchase to getting it on the market to let. We’ve been booked up since July, too! 🙋🏼‍♀️- you know who you are!

🎁 MAKING KIDS HAPPY AT CHRISTMAS 🎁

Every year in November, we gift refugee / poor children toys. My company donates money to buy second hand toys 🧸 which are boxed up and sent in a shoebox to arrive to the children 🧒 in time for Christmas 🎄.

My daughter, Isobel also puts in her pocket money 💰 or donates her own toys 🧸. It’s a Christmas 🎅 tradition and we love it.
