Let's talk waterfalls. There’s something awe-inspiring about the natural phenomena of thundering, plummeting water making rainbows in the spray. For millennia, waterfalls have been cultural landmarks, honoured and revered for their power and majesty. Here are just some of our favourite falls from around the world...

- Victoria Falls, straddling the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Known as one of the largest, most incredible waterfalls in the world, local villagers call it ""Mosi-oa-Tunya,"" which means ""The Smoke That Thunders"" in the Lozi language.
- Gulfoss, Iceland. One of Iceland's most iconic sights and important spot on the renowned 'Golden Circle Route', Gulfoss Falls are immensely powerful - an epic example of Iceland's untamed and rugged natural beauty.

Marine life safaris can be just as breathtaking as those on land - from spotting whales and dolphins from the deck of a boat, to diving among impressive coral reefs. Here are some of the best spots for marine wildlife encounters...

Norway - Not the first destination to come to mind, but the coldwater experience in Norway really delivers. With crystal-clear ocean and stunning underwater landscapes such as dramatic fjords, kelp forests, and pristine coral reefs, divers can encounter Arctic marine life such as orcas, humpback whales and wolf fish.

Mexico - Diving in Mexico is simply glorious. The sunlit cenotes of the Yucutun Peninsula make for spectacular diving opportunities, full of freshwater species and limestone formations; while the diving around the Sea of Cortez brings whale sharks, marine turtles and mobula rays.

South Africa - One of the best places to spot great white sharks. If you dare, go cage diving with these misunderstood apex predators and see them closer than you'd ever imagine - most popular in Gansbaai and Mossel Bay.

One of the main draws of a wildlife trip is not only witnessing spectacular flora and fauna up close, but practising our photography skills to get that perfect shot in the wild. If you're a keen photographer, here are three of our favourite places to take the camera...

- Rwanda. The landscapes in this jewel of East Africa are simply breathtaking and so underrated. The 'Land of a Thousand Hills' encompasses lush forests, rolling hills, volcanic mountains, and serene lakes. Of course, it's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest that is most memorable - home to majestic mountain gorillas that roam the hillsides. On a trip to Rwanda, you can get so close to the gorillas that a fantastic shot is almost guaranteed.

- The Azores. Portugal's remote archipelago is truly unique, with several volcanoes and lush, verdant landscapes awash with forests and waterfalls. It's an excellent place to capture breaching marine life, as this location, 850 miles (1,360 km) out to sea sees s***m whales, bottle-nosed dolphins and loggerhead turtles as they pass by on migratory routes.

- Madagascar. An island nation of fascinating endemic flora and fauna, including the distinctive baobab tree, Madagascar is a photographer's dream. Photographic pursuits could focus on the famously Madagascan ring-tailed lemur (often seen in Isalo National Park and Berenty Reserve), as well as chameleons and eagles.

Ready to frame the perfect shot? Our article of the Best Destinations for Wildlife Photography could be right up your street: https://www.travellocal.com/en/articles/the-best-destinations-for-wildlife-photography-trips-2

Calling all bird fans! If warblers, wrens and chickadees are the reason you travel, we've gotten together our top pick of destinations for epic bird-watching. Here is a taster of our favourites...

- Costa Rica. With around 900 bird species packed into its small landmass, Costa Rica's vast diversity of rainforests, cloud forests, mangroves, and wetlands makes it a mecca for birdlife. From Tortuguero National Park to La Selva Biological Station, one can spot scarlet macaws, a glut of hummingbirds and the stunning national bird - the resplendent quetzal.

- Spain. As a crucial stopover for for migratory birds traveling between Europe and Africa, Spain is a real birders hotspot - especially in regions like the Strait of Gibraltar and Doñana National Park in Andalucia. Heavyweight sightings include raptors like the Spanish imperial eagle and griffon vulture, or heavy flying birds like the great bustard.

- India. With over 1,300 bird species, India's sheer biodiversity makes it one of the top birdwatching destinations in the world. With landscapes spanning the Himalayas to forests to deserts, and sites like Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and Kaziranga National Park, there are bird-watching opportunities galore.

Responsible travel is our 'raison d'etre' at TravelLocal - we're always learning more about how sustainable choices can create positive impacts on the environment, local people, and economies. Here are just some of the benefits of travelling with sustainability in mind...

- Empower local communities. By staying in locally-owned accommodation, dining at local eateries and using independently-owned businesses, you support local people's cultural heritage and way of life. It also enriches your own travel experience.
- Protect wildlife. Making thoughtful choices for animal-based activities all contributes to their continued protection, allowing them to thrive in their wild, natural habitats.
- Combat overtourism. We get it - there are some travel scenarios where you can't avoid the crowds. But by balancing these with visits to unknown locations and seeking out new experiences, you can fight against the culturally corrosive effects of overtourism.

The summer has us basking in longer days and (usually) warmer temperatures, but when the seasons change, what trips do you have planned to extend those vacation vibes? Here are just a handful of our favourite destinations for a fall getaway...

Devon, UK - For an English trip with a difference, get to the south-western countryside. In the autumn months, the mist on the moors feels delightfully Agatha Christie, the turning colours of the forests are truly scenic, and there's nothing like winding down a day of hiking in a local pub with an open fire.

Japan - Japan's gorgeous spring sakura brings prime tourist season, but not as many travellers consider 'Momiji' - the period between September and November, when autumn colours reign supreme. Parks are covered with fiery foliage, particularly stunning in Kyoto and the Kansai region, while Nihonmatsu Lantern Festival in Fukushima is incredibly atmospheric.

Portugal - Portugal is beautiful in the fall. The scorching summer dissipates into cooler, still-warm temperatures, the rains of winter have yet to arrive, and crowds are vibrant and manageable. Immerse yourself in cultural festivals like São Martinho and drink wine at the Douro Valley; or enjoy an authentic pastal de nata at a Lisbon coffee table, with an inviting autumn breeze.

- Cultural Heart of Japan. What better place than Japan to wrap yourself in endless culture. This tour covers the archetypal highlights of Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara, with a side of ancient heritage in traditional Takayama, the historic centre Hakone, and Kanazawa, the former capital.

- Colombia Architecture & Culture Discovery. Unpack the endlessly magical heritage of this South American gem through its villages, architecture and arts. There's absolutely nothing like going on safari to spot animals you've never seen in the wild before, and you'll want to make the most of your experience. Here are 3 top tips for before you book...

- Which animals do you most want to see? Lions, hippos, jaguars? This will influence not only which destinations and national parks you'll want to prioritise, but what time of year you should go for the best chance of seeing them.

- Peak seasons. As above, the season will dictate the terrain and which animals are most visible. For instance, between June and October is the dry season in lots of African destinations, meaning more wildlife will gather at waterholes.

- Don't pack too much in. Sometimes, the best wildlife viewing comes because you've taken the time to let the animals come to you. Rushing through everything will only prove stressful when the time comes.
