So, what are we all hoping Santa leaves for us under the tree this year? In the 1980’s these were on everyone’s wish list!

Nowadays, many ask for money or vouchers so they can pick their own gifts which seems slightly sad as nothing beats the look in a loved one’s eyes when they rip open a present to find a gift they were hoping for but weren’t expecting!

Here at Go Beyond, on our Christmas wish list is that 2025 is even more fabulous than 2024, but we know that’s going to be difficult and also, how do you wrap that up and put it under the tree! But that’s what we’re hoping for and behind the scenes we’re working so hard to make that happen.

Verity steps up this week to pick her 2024 highlight and we’re re-winding back to the start of the year when we hit the ski slopes of The French Alps.

Verity says, “It’s so hard to choose a favourite memory, but I think it was when Jenny pretended it was her birthday when it was actually her sister’s! Next thing we know, the waiter is bringing out a cake with the entire restaurant singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her!”

So, December had crept up on us and at Go Beyond HQ we’re getting ready for the festive season but not quite into full excitement mode. Therefore, the question is, when does Christmas actually begin?

💥 FRIDAY FLASHBACK 💥

For this week’s dip into the 2024 archives, Laura has provided these two absolutely brilliant photos from her time in Corsica.

It was only in October that we headed out to this beautiful island off the south of France and we all had such a memorial time. Laura chose this wonderful photo of Eleanor which really portrays the happiness we all shared whilst away. Also, regular guest Ollie makes an appearance too with this photo caught just as Laura had accidentally flicked his nose!

It was Laura’s first year working with Go Beyond, spending time in both Corsica and Spain and was a huge hit with the guests, so we’re delighted she’ll be joining us again in 2025.

When Kevin our New Client Relations Co-ordinator fancied a cheeky week of winter sun, he decided to choose one of our new destinations for next year and use it as a bit of a fact finding trip whilst there.

☀️ 🇵🇹 ✈️ 🇵🇹 ☀️

This is what Kevin had to say about his week in Madeira……

“From the moment we arrived to the time we left, Madeira proved to be a fabulous choice of holiday. The approach into The Christiano Ronaldo Airport (the legendary Portuguese footballer was born there), was just breathtaking as we circled the North Atlantic Ocean and landed in this most beautiful of islands. Here’s my 5 biggest reasons why I loved it so much:-

(In no particular order…..)

1) The people. Everyone was super-friendly from the bus and taxi drivers to the serving staff in the bars and restaurants. Maybe it was the weather, but everyone seemed to have a smile on their face!

2) The prices are fab! Food, drinks, souvenirs, etc. are all cheaper than you’ll find back home. A coffee and a pastry (the ‘Pastel de Nata’ local delicacy, a firm favourite) cost around €4.00 (approx. £3.50).

3) The sea was gorgeous. Now I’m not saying the temperatures were Carribean-esque in November, but it was refreshingly delightful! What was really apparent was there was so much going on around the coast of the island. Many boats were out dolphin watching and I saw much sailing, fishing and kayaking too. The island is a haven for off-shore activities.

4) The capital city of Funchal. Set right on the coast, I adored this place. The harbour area with its small sail boats and huge cruise liners regularly arriving and departing was a hive of activity. Loads of cafe’s and places to grab a drink or snack plus lovely long promenade walks and the Christiano Ronaldo CR7 Museum stand out as highlights. The ‘old town’ was really wonderful too with its narrow streets and colourful market.

5) It’s British, without being British in any way! It’s a 3 hour flight away and is nearer Africa than Europe yet you never feel as if you’re that far from home. Many of the locals speak English (handy, as my Portuguese is limited to say the least), and there’s many ex-pats living out there so there’s always someone to talk to about the weather, football or the latest news from back home. And most bonkers of all, the time in Madeira is exactly the same as in the UK!

So, all in all I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to return. The photos below show me enjoying bbq’ing my own food in one of the incredible restaurants we chose to eat in, taking a cable car up to the village of Monte followed by a a hair-raising ‘basket ride’ down the steep and narrow streets from Monte to Livramento! Plus, there’s also a selection of some of the most beautiful and picturesque places I visited. Maybe I’ll be joining you on the trip in May next year….. now that would be fabulous!”

💥 FRIDAY FLASHBACK 💥

Continuing our weekly look back over our 2024 holidays, this week we asked Karen to pick her favourite memory and she came up with this absolute corker .❤️

As many of you will know, Kazza has been a stalwart of the Go Beyond Team for many years and travels so frequently, she’s on first term names with many of the cabin crew and pilots! 👩‍✈️

This picture, captured by Kazza herself, shows three deer who used to regularly visit us at breakfast time at our beautiful house on the outskirts of Helsinki, Finland. Kazza says “I remember the first morning we awoke and Kevin shouting from the kitchen, “Deer, oh deer, oh deer”. I thought he’d burnt the toast (again), but actually he was referring to the three baby deer that had appeared just 10 metres or so from the window. These fawns always brightened our mornings when they appeared and I was delighted to capture them on camera”.📸

Kazza will be joining us on most (if not all), our holidays again for 2025 and like all of us, can’t wait to see what appears outside our windows when we open the curtains each morning! 🌄

Opening the curtains this morning you may have been shocked to see there was snow on the ground ……… say what?!?!

Ok, there may not be enough to go skiing and probably not even enough to make a snowman, but it’s definitely bought back some wonderful memories for us of skiing last year in the French Alps. What a hilariously brilliant week that was!

So, we thought it was a good time to remind everyone that next March we’re flying off to Bulgaria for another week of snow-filled fun. This carefully selected destination is perfect for skiers of all levels with fabulous facilities, amazing accommodation and scintillating scenery.

Helen, our Scottish Super Chef, has picked this week’s Friday Flashback, with this being one of her most treasured highlights from 2024.

In October we headed up to the Easter Highlands of Scotland for a film making extravaganza and what a week we had! Helen, who lives just minutes from where we were based in Ballater, arranged for her local district pipe band to turn up one evening at our hostel. Not just one piper or one drummer, but the whole band! This video makes our hearts sing and the guys just loved it!

💥 FRIDAY FLASHBACK 💥

Continuing with our look back over our fabulous 2024 holidays, our latest Friday Flashback takes us to Galicia, Spain and comes courtesy of lovely Louis.

Louis spent all three weeks at our base in Corrubedo in August, with his favourite memories being the surfing and kayaking activities. Louis recalls the joy at seeing the guys body surf across the light waves and taking the kayaks out upon the open water. However, we reckon it’s also to do with the fact he totally rocked the wetsuit look as shown in the top picture!

With our 2024 programme of scheduled holidays now complete, over the next few weeks we’ll be posting our favourite memories from the past year with help from a few of our fabulous support staff ☺️

It seems only right that we go back to the start of the year to begin with and The French Alps. Regular support staff member Su has chosen this as one of her many stand out moments Su explains, “We had so many laughs whilst skiing, especially when Jeff fell over - if you know, you know!!” 😂

And for 2024 ………. that’s a wrap!!!

Now we’ve completed our Autumn programme with three sensational trips to Scotland, Corsica and Finland, we say farewell to our 2024 holidays.

And WOW, what a year it’s been! Starting off back in January with a Travel Buddy to Tenerife before hitting the deserts of Morocco and the ski slopes of the French Alps on our first scheduled tours.

As these photos show, wherever we went we filled our days with joy and laughter and we couldn’t have wished for a more fabulous year.

With our 2025 schedule confirmed and our brochures now printed (and also available on-line), our thoughts turn to next year. A completely new itinerary awaits and bookings are already flying in which only makes us more excited!

The final day in wild Finland was spent on the River Pikkalanjoki, canoeing with SE-Action Oy. Thanks to Suzanne and Pete who were great guides and looked after us so well. This beautiful afternoon also brings to a close our autumn holiday program and our 2024 holidays. Thanks to everyone who came and we are grateful for all the love.

More beautiful, blue skies with a visit to an old fortress on the small island of Suomenlinna near Helsinki. This amazing UNESCO world heritage site has played a huge part in shaping Finnish history.

A sea voyage across the Baltic Sea from Helsinki to Tallinn in Estonia. What a lovely city Tallinn is, we shall definitely go back there for a Go Beyond Holiday. Look out for Fat Margaret too!! Prizes to anyone who can identify it!!
