I am a resident of Moorend, South Gloucestershire, UK. Recently, our community has been severely affected by the decision to turn off the right turn lights & not allow traffic to come straight across from Frenchay at Hambrook junction. This has resulted in us having to drive extra miles just to reach our homes. The only alternative route we had is now closed due to rebuilding a new bridge which is expected to take a further two years! leaving us with one way into Hambrook and one way out. This change not only adds unnecessary time and distance to our daily commute but also increases fuel consumption and contributes to air pollution. According to data from the Department for Transport (DfT), an average car in the UK emits about 180g of CO2 per kilometre driven. Given that there are over 200 households in Moorend alone who are affected by this change, it's clear that this decision is having a significant environmental impact.Whilst proving inconvience & time consuming to residents who live in this area!! The extra cost in taxis & deliveries should be addressed! Furthermore, this situation raises safety concerns as it limits access routes for emergency services which could potentially delay critical response times. We understand that traffic management decisions are complex and often require balancing various competing interests. However, we believe that turning off the traffic lights at Hambrook junction without providing an adequate alternative route fails to consider the needs of local residents like us who rely on these roads daily. Therefore, we urge South Gloucestershire Council's Highways Department to reconsider their decision and reinstate the traffic lights at Hambrook junction or provide a viable alternative route for local residents. Please sign this petition if you too believe in efficient commuting routes that consider both environmental impacts and community needs.
