Chew Valley lake is just a 5 minute drive for guests who stay at the Snug.

Chew Valley Lake is a reservoir roughly 10 miles from Wells.

It offers gorgeous views and is perfect for walks and exploration. It is the 5th largest artificial lake in the United Kingdom, spanning 1,200 acres!

The lake, created in the early 1950s, was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 1956.

It provides much of the drinking water for the city of Bristol and surrounding area, taking its supply from the Mendip Hills.

The lake is an important site for wildlife and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

It is also a national centre for birdwatching, with over 260 species recorded.

It makes for a great day out if you’re visiting Wells!✨
