Scott's holiday blog 🇭🇰

I have recently returned from a holiday to Hong Kong and Singapore in early June. I will be doing a 2-part post on recommendations and experiences from my recent trip. Firstly, starting with Hong Kong, I travelled from London Heathrow direct with Cathay Pacific. I highly recommend Cathay as the food, drinks, service, staff, aircraft and economy legroom were fantastic. I had 4 flights with Cathay on the holiday, each brilliant. The roughly 13-hour flight from London was long but the entertainment on board and service made it much more enjoyable.

Upon arrival into Hong Kong there was a storm passing but by the afternoon it was blue sky and sunshine as most days are in June, temperatures stayed around 31C. After filling in our arrival cards and obtaining our luggage we went to the MTR help desk to obtain our Octopus cards which are a pre-paid transport card that makes it quick and easy to get around Hong Kong including Trains, Trams, Buses and Ferries which we found extremely useful, there is an app you can use to top this up or you can top-up at any MTR helpdesk or 7-Eleven convenience store.

From Chep Lap Kok International I went via train to Kowloon and arrived at the Royal Pacific Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui located opposite Kowloon Park. The location was fantastic where we could walk to the edge of the pier and watch the ‘Symphony of Lights’ across Victoria Harbour. The Royal Pacific Hotel featured good sized rooms, nice buffet style breakfast, clean & modern and served well as a base to get around Hong Kong, It was a short distance to walk to the Star Ferry Terminal too. Kowloon itself is full of shopping and food, it was very difficult not to find food areas, restaurants and cafes and the range was superb.

Just near the hotel was the pickup location to get the Big Bus Tour for Kowloon. I highly recommend Big Bus as they go to all the great tourist points, friendly staff, very punctual and fantastic audio guides. Great destinations that Big Bus tours take you to around Hong Kong are Central Star Ferry Terminal, Mid-Levels Escalator, Man Mo Temple, Hollywood Road, Causeway Bay, Peak Tram. We also booked a relaxing sail around Victoria Harbour onboard a Aqualuna Junk Boat which included an alcoholic beverage of your choice and tranquil music throughout.

Closer to the end of our stay in HK we visited Disneyland Hong Kong and stayed at the Disney's Hollywood Hotel. The park itself is much smaller than the rest of the world's parks, but had a few unique rides, Mystic Manor was a great ride that was very similar to the Haunted Mansion but with a different story and styling. Disneyland HK itself is on Lantau Island, the same as Chep Lap Kok International Airport which made transferring to the airport much easier.

Hong Kong is bursting at the seams with culture, history, cuisine and experiences. I would go back to Hong Kong as there is still so much, I did not get a chance to experience and will look forward to a future visit. Next, I will do a post on my visit to Singapore and my experiences there.

Here at the new Hays Travel Bromsgrove branch we are very sad over the recent collapse of Thomas Cook, the news has hit us particularly hard as we all worked at the Thomas Cook Bromsgrove branch.

We were delighted when Hays Travel offered us positions and an opportunity to continue to work together again as a team and provide you with amazing holidays and service.
