Bromsgrove Flower Club

Bromsgrove Flower Club Club Members have the opportunity to enter the monthly flower arranging competition which has a different theme each month.
(6)

We are affiliated to the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies of Great Britain (NAFAS), and are part of the Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS. Anyone who enters is entitled to a free raffle ticket, and points are awarded in the novice, intermediate and advanced classes. At the end of the year, the overall winners in each class are awarded a silver cup or salver. There is

also a "Flower of the Month" Competition, where Members can enter a flower from their own gardens. There are always some beautiful and often unusual flowers on display. We also have a Sales Table, where members and visitors can buy flower arranging accessories such as floral foam and other items at very reasonable prices, and there is also a very successful Bring and Buy table, where unusual treasures can often be found! We are a very friendly group, and we do hope you will come and join us for a most enjoyable afternoon. New members and visitors are always made most welcome, (you don't have to live in Bromsgrove!), and of course, we hope you will enjoy your visit enough to want to become a member of the Society!

Bromsgrove Flower Club welcomed 48 members and 8 visitors to its first meeting of 2024 on Thursday 15th February 2024, when Katherine Kear, a National Demonstrator, came to demonstrate for us with the unusual title ‘Doofers.’

Not only were we treated to some beautiful designs but Katherine also gave the audience some valuable flower arranging tips and explained the meaning of the word "doofers", as well as the interpretation of some well-known sayings.

All in all it was a great start for our 2024 season which the audience thoroughly enjoyed.

Katherine kindly gave us permission to post two of her designs, which are featured below.

We hope you will join us for our next meeting on Thursday 21st March, when we will have National Demonstrator Lorena Dyer, with her title "Are You Sitting Comfortably?". The club competition will be "Spring into Easter", a purple-themed display to reflect Epilepsy Awareness Day. We will also have the usual Flower of the Month competition.

On September 15th, Chairperson Mrs Angela Harvey extended a warm welcome to 39 members and 6 guests. She then introduced Sally Taylor. Sally had visited our club some years ago. Her Demonstration title on Thursday was “Sallying Forth Again”. One of the definitions in the dictionary of sallying forth is “an adventure off the beaten path”. Sally certainly took us on an interesting journey. Each of her arrangements were accompanied by many stories and recollections.
In Her first arrangement using a cherub accessory, Sally used blue larkspur, pink roses and pink snow berry, she also had a similar arrangement she had made earlier. The next design consisted of a larger arrangement joined by ruched black ribbon to a smaller version. These arrangements had, cream roses, chincherinchees and foliage. The next arrangement was without floral foam and had a ball made of wound wire which was inserted into the top of the container. Shades of pink larkspur and delphinium along with white agapanthus were then threaded through, to create the simple shape. Using two containers, one lying on its side, Sally created a beautiful design from a variety of foliage, yellow orchids and deep red anthuriums. For her last arrangement Sally created a long, low design with yellow/orange small gerberas, peach Lisianthus and two tone red roses. She left a space in the middle of the design and then created a hand tied design using the same flowers. Placing the hand tied neatly into a gold container Sally then inserted it into the space in the centre of her main design.
All Sally’s arrangements were put into a raffle and the lucky recipients were able to take home and enjoy Sally’s creativity.
The vote of thanks was given by Lesley Vanezis.
Sally has kindly given permission for two photographs to be posted.
