Caban Eryri - Snowdonia Cabin Stay in our cosy log cabin in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. Stays from 1 night, pets welcome.

Snowdonia Cabin is a traditional Norwegian log cabin in the heart of the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. The cabin is in Trawsfynydd Holiday Village, a quiet, peaceful but well equipped site surrounded by woodland and open countryside. The cabin sleeps up to 6 people, and is available for weekly rental and short breaks from 1st December to 31st October every year. Cosy and fully furnished, it's

a perfect base for exploring Snowdonia and North Wales. We're just a couple of miles from Coed y Brenin, with some of the best mountain biking trails in Europe. The area is also well known for fishing, walking, wildlife and of course steam trains, as well as spectacular scenery. You can even bring your best friend - pets are welcome (up to 2 per stay)

The site has a shop, information centre, outdoor play area, launderette and enclosed dog walking area. The Cross Foxes pub is just a short drive away and has a great reputation for local food in generous portions. So whether you're looking for a romantic break, a base for outdoor pursuits or a great value family holiday, we'd love to welcome you to Snowdonia Cabin soon.

Afternoon everyone, and sorry I haven't posted much on this page - that's because for the last few months I've been preparing to take over the reins of Cadair View Lodge Accommodation In Eryri so that my partner-in-crime Sue Steadman can finally get a step closer to retiring and enjoying a well-earned rest! Caban Eryri - Snowdonia Cabin has always been one of the Cadair View "stable" so you can book through cadairviewlodge.co.uk and you'll still be dealing direct with me. But managing all the Cadair View socials is a full time job in itself so I've been a bit remiss at keeping this page updated, sorry. It would be lovely if you could follow me over there too, and I'll try not to leave it so long next time - Rachel 😘

My partner-in-crime Sue Steadman of Cadair View Lodge Accommodation In Eryri was on BBC Radio Wales this morning talking about the Brecon Beacons National Park's decision to use Bannau Brycheiniog in future. Sue did a great job of explaining how we've adapted to use Eryri (Snowdonia) and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in our marketing and social media over the last few months. The world hasn't ended, and bookings are still flowing in nicely.

Of course, a lot of people called in to the show to say that as the Welsh was too difficult to pronounce they would be sticking with the English names. I do wonder how these same callers learned how to say Leicester, Worcester, Edinburgh, Altrincham or Leominster... 🫒

The other day I was in a cafe when a couple of early holidaymakers sat down at the next table. "Oh look," said one, pointing at the wall, "What a lovely picture of Betsy Code". "I don't think that's how you pronounce it", said her companion gently. "Well, that's how I've always said it", her friend retorted, and that was the end of the matter.

Later in the week I was on a course with quite a few people who had moved to North Wales. We went round the room introducing ourselves and where we lived, and many people were unable to pronounce the name of their own village despite having lived there for, in one case, 24 years.

And those of you who know me well will have seen my occasional rants at BBC newsreaders who seem incapable of learning how to pronounce Welsh names, though they have no trouble with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Xi Jinping.

Does this matter? I think it does. Cymraeg may sound very complicated and different, but making the effort to learn how to say place names will be hugely appreciated by local people.

Here's a great tip for you. Go to Bing Translate online, set English to Welsh and put in your search term then click on the little speaker to hear the pronunciation. Practice a few times - don't get hung up on the spelling, in fact close your eyes and just listen. Then have a go next time you're chatting to someone local and ask if you're doing ok. I guarantee nobody will laugh at you, and everyone will be happy to help.

And look, BBC News , it can even tell you how to pronounce Geraint! πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Something a bit different for me this morning. I'm taking part in a webinar on the proposed visitor levy for Wales. You may have seen shouty headlines recently about this "tourist tax", with industry figures claiming it will decimate the industry and put people off visiting Wales at a time when tourism is still struggling to recover from the pandemic. But many English cities and regions are planning to do the same, and it's already commonplace in Europe and New Zealand.

The cost to the individual traveller would be minimal, a few pounds, probably no more than a couple of ice creams or a Starbucks coffee. The revenue raised would be spent on services and facilities that directly benefit tourists.

It's an emotive subject and there are lots of details to iron out, but if you're interested this is a good, non-shouty explainer by The Bevan Foundation. If you want to contribute to the consultation you can read about it here https://gov.wales/a-visitor-levy-for-wales - click on 'get involved ' to go straight to the survey, which is open until December 13th.

In the second of a series of articles looking at the potential for new devolved taxes, we consider whether a tourism tax will work in Wales One of the [...] More

We have some special little guests arriving today, so we've winkled out the Forest Friends bedding and crockery and cosied up the bunks with soft blankets and bedtime stories. And to make mum's life easier we've added some PIR nightlights, tucked all the cleaning products safely away, filled and pre-boiled the kettle and pre-tuned the TV so she has chance to get her coat off and make a cuppa while they settle in and explore. Hope they have fun!

The Cabin Elves are getting very excited about their annual IKEA trip. Every November, when the cabin is closed, they nip off to Warrington for some new bits and pieces for our guests. And as many blue bags as they can carry!

Last time it was a pizza wheel and pizza oven tray. This year I've asked them for some new cutlery and chopping boards, and lots of energy efficient fairy lights to make the cabin look cosy and magical. What else should they add to the list?

πŸ₯ΎπŸ₯Ύ Do you pack your walking boots when you come to Eryri / Snowdonia? There are some spectacular walks and trails right on our doorstep. From short circular walks to long distance trails, exploring on foot gives you a chance to see so much more. This is a great introduction:

Snowdon itself, at 3,560 feet (1,085m), is obviously the prime destination for many with the most popular routes to the summit being the Llanberis Path which takes you along the Snowdon Mountain Railway track and should take about 6 hours to walk the 9 miles there and back. Other routes such as the....

Wow - just totted up all the bookings for the current year (December 1st 2021 to 31st October 2022) and it's a massive 204 nights, with a few gaps still to fill. Thanks to Sue Cadair View Lodge Accommodation In Snowdonia for all her hard work in getting most of those for me, and to all my lovely guests for making this such a busy "bounce-back" year. I've loved looking after you all 😍
