Moving the herdwicks past Malt Kiln to their lambing field, walked them a mile today at their pace so maybe a few lambs popping out soon. Already had 138 lambs out of the mules

2023 lambing has now started, 1 week earlier than it should be. They are having a night in tonight out of the weather.
8am this morning I had to move 12 ewes out of their field before it went under water. It was a close call. The river is about 3 feet higher than the field but the banking bleeds out by the gate but overflows on 2 corners below and it all happens so quickly

Choir Practice in the sheep pens this afternoon.

Started lambing yesterday and today has been busy.
Have Pushed a prolapse back in and fitted a spoon to hopefully prevent it happening again and she has triplets inside her.
Then had to pull a breached lamb out too. How it didn’t drown on the slime I don’t know.
That’s lambing for you.

Have had a little break away before lambing starts. Took the dogs too.
How to entertain your dogs while away from the sheep ? Easy. Give em some baler twine and put Clarksons Farm on telly for em.

Getting the sheep together.
They are getting scanned on Friday so we will know how many lambs they are expecting. Lambing should start 27th March.

Had a very busy month amongst the sheep getting ready for putting the Tups to the ewes. Buying more herdwicks, now a flock of 64, and topping up the numbers on the mules. Bought a new Charolais Tup to help with the upcoming job. 147 ewes for the lads to serve meaning next April will be the start of a busy lambing time.
So if you’d like to lend a helping hand you’d better get yourselves booked into Malt Kiln so you don’t miss out.
