Join us to explore some of the most popular sites across Orkney on this day trip run by Maynes. You will travel on a low emissions coach with a highly knowledgeable and experienced driver guide who will ensure that you not only see the best sites and sights that Orkney has to offer- but that you gain a deeper insight and knowledge of the Island.

This daytrip is ideal if you are on the this year, and wishing to do a day trip to Orkney, park your car conveniently at Gills Bay, board the ferry over the Pentland Firth and join our coach, waiting for you as you disembark and then enjoy a fantastic day with us. Or you can join the tour in Kirkwall if you will already be based on the island!

The tour highlights include:

✨ 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites known as the Heart of Neolithic Orkney:
(1) Visit to Skara Brae included
(2) Visit to Ring of Brodgar included.
(3) Drive by Standing Stones of Stenness.
✨ Visit to the Italian Chapel included (subject to pick up point- not included in Kirkwall pickup)

✨ Drive by Scapa Flow which is the largest natural harbour in the northern hemisphere and headquarters of the Royal Navy during WW1 and WW2.

✨ Drive along the 4 Churchill barriers linking the southern Islands still with some “block” ships dating back to 1914.

✨ Free time in Kirkwall so you can explore the largest town in Orkney, home to the magnificent eleventh century St Magnus Cathedral, and boasts many independent retailers.

We have two different rates and travel options to best suit your needs. If you are travelling to join the tour you can select the option to include your ferry travel in your booking- you will board the ferry in Gills Bay (Pentland Ferries) where you will sail to St Margarets Hope where our Coach will collect you to begin our tour.

The ferry will take approximately an hour which is enough time to grab a refreshment on the ferry before arriving at the port.

If you are already on Orkney and wish to book onto this day tour we have an option for you too!

There is an optional pick up at the Kirkwall Bus Station, however, please note that if you join the tour here you will NOT have the Italian Chapel Visit included.

Please make sure you are selecting the correct ticket as a standard Adults and Child's ticket does not include the ferry.

💙 Kirkwall💙

One of our stops on the Orkney Discovery Day Trip is Kirkwall where you will have free time to do as you please. There is plenty to explore in Kirkwall such as St Magnus Cathedral or Bishops Palace and Earls Palace.

Kirkwall is the largest town in Orkney and is home to a number of local and independent shops where you can browse and purchase a souvenir or you have your choice of cafes, restaurants and coffee stops where you can relax with some refreshments.

💙 Ring of Brodgar 💙

Next up is the Ring of Brodgar- a site you will have seen all over your social media as tourists flock to the island. The Ring of Brodgar is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is described as an iconic part of Orkney’s identity.

The Ring of Brodgar dates back from 2,500 to 2,000 BC and was built in a true circle, 104 metres wide and originally contained sixty megaliths; today only twenty-seven of these stones remain. The reason for the creation of the Ring of Brodgar is to this day, unknown and it is thought that the sites creation was possibly an astronomical observatory, religious shrine or rituals.
