So last week I took some tour guests to have a look at The Ogham Stone, said to have once been the gravestone of King Arthur and it was gone!

It's getting close!
Three weeks today and you'll be sick of the sight of mince pies!
Ordinarily about now I would be posting telling you to "Book now for Christmas!"
However this year I am telling you that between my other part time job, family commitments and bookings, I only have availability on the 19th, 20th and 21st and availability on Sunday 22nd is by pre booking only.
After Sunday the 22nd I have no availability until the 15th January.

My sincere thanks to all those who have supported Glenys and I through the last year. Whether you have been out on one of my tours, ridden in Glenys on a standard taxi ride, or even simply shared my posts to help spread the word of my humble little business...Thank you so much.

Here are a couple of tips on snow driving from an experienced professional driver and qualified IAM observer:

1) Be VERY gentle with the controls of your vehicle.
2) Look as far ahead as you possibly can (you should be doing this anyway), and plan to stop your vehicle WELL before you need to. If you find you have grip, that's great, but if you start sliding you'll have time to deal with it.
3) If you start sliding whilst braking DON'T PANIC, release the brakes and re apply gently.
4) If you start sliding whilst in a bend or turning, DON'T PANIC, steer into the direction the vehicle is going. The tyres may find grip again.
5) Turn the radio down. Listen to your tyres. They make a rumbling noise / swishing noise on the road. If they go silent you're probably on ice. (Black ice is the real danger as it can't be seen on the road.) Be very gentle with the controls and pay close attention to how your vehicle reacts to your input.
6) 4x4, ABS and traction control are useful tools but will not compensate for bad driving or poor planning. 4x4 drivers, remember that you still have to stop just like the rest of us inferior 2x4 drivers!
7) Use caution and slow down. Your journey isn't THAT important to risk ending up in the hedge, or putting someone else in the hedge!
8) Prepare for your journey. Carry a charged phone, spare warm clothing, torch and suitable walking shoes. Consider a flask and food. Consider a shovel and a lidded bucket of rocksalt.

Vehicles with narrow tyres, automatic gearboxes and rear wheel drive will fare much better in these conditions.

Last week a lady appealed on The Bude Noticeboard asking for 24 hour taxi numbers, in case she had to get to hospital during the night. All of Bude's taxi drivers are individuals, not large firms. These individuals do not appreciate being woken at three am by someone who has not the wit to pre plan how they are to get home from that party, so they do not leave their work phone on at night. I am no exception. None of Bude's taxi drivers operate a 24 hour 'on demand' service. That is simply not possible to do.
The lady in question was facing an uncertain circumstance where she may or may not need urgent transport to hospital. The ambulance service had already said they were unable to help. She had no friends who drive to call on.
What was she to do? In the event, I told her that I would leave my work phone on for her (thankfully she did not need to travel).
This got me thinking that a number is needed for people facing a genuine, dire emergency out of normal hours.
So there is now a separate telephone number listed on The Little White Taxi website for use in an absolute emergency.

Glenys and I are just back from a lovely day out with some tour guests on the West Cornwall Tour, 'Soldiers, Miners and Fairies'.
"Oh we have been to the UK before," one couple mentioned "and have some bank notes from then."
At the coffee stop in Gweek he produces the notes.
The pound note was last printed in 1984.

⚠KWT ADVISORY FOR CAMPERS⚠

Good evening.

This week, we have a series of lows pushing in bringing a very unsettled week. The first of the lows is expected on Monday.

Therefore, it would be wise to be prepared by
putting away anything that's outside, ensuring any gazebos or awnings are fully tied-down or removed, and
pack away any garden furniture, children's toy's outside, particularly when the rain comes.

We are expecting some possible torrential downpours, which could lead to localised flooding, large areas of standing water, making any feilds very muddy and slippery, also the risk of thunder. The wind speeds are expected to fluctuate, during any downpours, these could have sudden gusts at times especially tomorrow increasing up to possibly 40+mph at times.

Where has The Little White Taxi been today?
It's a fairly well known spot, so no prizes for guessing.
Glenys and I have been doing a hotel transfer for John today.
John is visiting from Washington and has had a few days in Penzance. Glenys and I collected him from there and took him to his next port of call via a bit of a drive around.
We saw The Merry Maidens, St. Just, The Crowns at Botallack, Lavant mine, Men an Tol, Zennor Church and St. Pirans oratory.
And to think that John's travel agent suggested he get the train!
