It’s World Hippo Day 🦛!
These huge, dangerous mammals are hunted by poachers for their meat and ivory teeth and drought has led to their habitat loss🙁
Hopefully by raising awareness of their plight they will be around for many years to come!

Are you bored with the same old destinations popping up on your social media?

There are soooo many fantastic places to explore, some may feel a bit daunting if they are not on the mass tourism trail but this makes them extra special and if you have a private guide arranged then the stress is taken away and you can get off the beaten track.

Nicaragua is a tropical country in Central America, sandwiched between Costa Rica and El Salvador. It is rich in wildlife, volcanoes, Spanish colonial architecture, coffee plantations, lakes and beaches so there is plenty to explore. Just off the east coast are the stunning Corn Islands which have been on my bucket list for a long time. Consisting of two islands, Great Corn Island (an area of 10 square kilometres ) and Little Corn Island (an area of 2.9 kilometres) they are a great place to dive or snorkel with an abundance of sea turtles, barracuda, nurse sharks and spotted eagle rays, it looks amazing!

The best time to visit is between November and May which is the country’s dry season. I am currently researching sustainable properties in this interesting part of the world and I have found some really beautiful places.

I am currently putting together a safari for a family trip to Kenya this Summer. There are so many fabulous lodges and camps out there and many have sustainability at their core. I have just come across the beautiful Segera Retreat, everything about it is perfect, the location, the decor, their values and they even have the “Birds Nest” villa set high above the ground which offers the unique concept of nesting and sleeping like a bird, how awesome is that!! Day 5 in New York.
The Guggenheim Museum, Chinatown, Wall Street, the Stock Exchange, the Tin Building ( great views of the Brooklyn bridge and the most fantastic food hall run by famous chef, Jean Georges), a quick shop at the Rockafeller Centre and the best sushi ever from Star Sushi before heading to Kennedy airport for our flight home.
Fabulous trip, our teenage children ages 17 & 19 said it was their best trip ever, I can highly recommend it.

Day 3/4: 9/11 Memorial & Museum (an absolute must see), the Oculus, Greenwich Village and Meatpacking District with all their fabulous brownstone buildings, bohemian cafes and bars. The brilliant High Line walk and a quick cruise out to see the Statue of Liberty. We also had some outstanding meals at Star Sushi, PS Kitchen and delicious breakfasts at the Butchers Daughter in two different locations. Two wonderful days!

Having such a great time in New York although I have never been so cold!! Great first day at the Empire State Building, Rockafeller Centre, Grand Central Station ( for a sneaky Espresso Martini!) Saks, Macy’s, lots and lots of walking. Such fun:)

Okahirongo Elephant Lodge in the unspoiled wilderness of Kaokland, Namibia is definitely a bucket list experience.

All of the guide books say the best time to travel to Costa Rica is during the dry season which is generally from December to April and it is indeed a fantastic time to go especially if you want to spend time at the beach. However, if wildlife and/or volcanoes are your thing then travelling during the green season is still great fun. We have teenagers so are forced to book our trips within school holiday periods which makes it tricky to visit some places at the perfect time. On our last trip, it was in July so there was a bit of inclement weather however we saw so many slothes just hanging around, crossing the road, in the trees it was just incredible. I have travelled around Costa Rica many times (we even got married there a long time ago which was a LOT of fun) but for our last trip we decided to take a look around the South East corner of the country near the border with Panama, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. We were blown away by the abundance of wildlife. From our deck we could happily view slothes, toucans, howler monkeys, aracari, pizote, all whilst lying in a hammock, it was absolutely amazing. Hoi An is so much fun. Such a charming town with its alley ways, lamp shops and amazing street food! There is so much to do in this area of Vietnam:
- Cooking classes ( we learnt how to make rice paper - so cool!)
- Food Tours - the food is just WOW, so many herbs and flavours.
- Cycle through the rice paddies and villages, hire yourself a bike or I can arrange a guide to take you to the best places.
- Dive trips to beautiful Cham Island - take a slow boat out and return on a super fast jet boat.
We stayed in Hoi An for a couple of days and then headed to the beach, the people in this area are so special too, I cant wait to go back xx
