Storm รowyn causes travel chaos across the UK
Airlines have been forced to cancel or delay hundreds of flights across the UK today due to gusts of winds as fast as 114 miles per hour.
Worst affected by Storm รowyn are airports in Scotland, Belfast and the north of England.
Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen airports have cancelled almost all flights till late afternoon or early evening.
Most flights at Belfast International are also cancelled until early afternoon, while significant disruption is expected at Belfast City at least until 3.30pm.
There are also many cancellations at Newcastle International, some at Manchester and Liverpool, and significant disruption at Leeds Bradford airport.
Jet2 said it has been forced to reschedule some flights from Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Leeds due to the โadverse weather conditionsโ.
A spokesperson said: โWe have already contacted customers on these flights to let them know. We do of course apologise in advance for any disruption caused by these conditions, which are obviously completely outside our control.โ
So far today, 402 UK departures and 399 arrivals have been cancelled across the UK, according to flight data analysts Cirium, which is 17% of the total number of scheduled flights.
Worst affected airports are Edinburgh, where more than 150 flights have been cancelled so far, and London Heathrow where 108 have been grounded, followed by Glasgow, Aberdeen and Belfast.
Rare red weather warnings are in place in Northern Ireland, and in Scotland from 10am, while amber and yellow warnings are in place across the rest of the UK.
Ferries have also been affected by the storm, with all crossings between Holyhead and Dublin and Pembroke and Rosslare cancelled. Stena Line has cancelled some crossings between Belfast Cairnryan and Liverpool and between Holyhead and Dublin and Fishguard and Rosslare.
