I often suggest to my guests to visit the Avalon Marshes nature reserves out on the Somerset Levels. They're only a short drive from our holiday home and from mid November through to late February a very special experience can be had. The Starling murmurations build in number through the winter months and is a joy to behold. 🙂

Did you know?
The common name, Dunlin, comes from this birds' habit of nesting in upland moors and bogs: 'dun' is an old Gaelic word for hill and 'linne' means pool or pond..just saying!
Two years ago I filmed a flock of Dunlin down on the Huntspill seawall. It was a beautiful calm day, with an 11.3m High tide and they were foraging on the saltings amongst the Samphire..'twaz rather lovely 🙂

Somerset Art Works (SAW) is an artist-led organisation and a countywide agency dedicated to developing the visual arts in Somerset and starting this Saturday 24th September is their open studio week. Check this link for an interactive map of all the venues taking part. It's a great way of touring Somerset if you like arts and crafts.

Another Drama is being filmed here this week!

Channel 4 has this week confirmed that Julie Walters is among the stars being filmed this month in Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Berrow for a new TV drama series.

JUBILEE EVENT: Two weeks to go! Burnham Chamber of Trade is overseeing a very special vintage vehicles display along Burnham High Street and Victoria Street as part of the town’s Jubilee celebrations on SATURDAY JUNE 4TH from 10am-4pm in conjunction with Bridgwater Classic and Vintage Club. We hope to encourage lots of people into the town centre for this FREE event and also to encourage visits to our many wonderful town centre shops at the same time. We will have over 50 vehicles on show from across the decades of The Queen’s reign plus live entertainment.

Here is a clip of the new BBC drama series called Chloe which was partly filmed in Burnham-On-Sea and Brean. Scenes were filmed last Spring on Burnham-On-Sea beach, outside Burnham Pavilion, in the sea, and along parts of Burnham’s South Esplanade just around the corner from us at Quantock Court plus on top of Brean Down. See if you recognise any of the places or maybe any of your faces! :)
