The amount of wildlife roaming the gardens at The Stable always amazes us.

This beautiful pheasant decided to have a look into the barn today, and earlier in the week a usually very shy heron was spotted looking over the wild patch.

I do wonder how much we miss when not looking out the windows this time of year!

🤷‍♀️ Do you know why the Barn is called 'Mullion Barn'?

Well, here is a bit of Mullion Barn history for you...

When the barn was converted 15 years ago it was discovered that the window next to the The Stables' front door was an original 'Mullion' window constructed around 1610. In fact, it is apparently one of the best preserved Mullion windows from this era.

It is called a mullion window because the vertical dividers are 'mullions' and these were designed to enable natural air and light into a structure from the middle ages onwards. Although glass began to be more widely used in the 16th century this Stable window would either have been left open or likely covered with oiled cloth, paper or sliding or hinged shutters to keep out the wind and rain. Luckily for the comfort of our guests in the 21st century it is now covered in glass!

Many of these windows were destroyed or changed over the centuries so we are lucky to have such a well preserved one 😊.

The Stable is the oldest part of the barn and the comfy king sized bed lies is the area of where the feeding trough was located when it was used as a stable many moons ago.

We have a travel cot with mattress, and a high chair... and the best bit is you can escape for a few hours just the two of you.. as we offer a babysitting service.!

Both Mrs Mullion Barn (an antenatal teacher, pregnancy & birth coach and mum) and Miss Mullion Barn (a regular babysitter for local parents) have lots of experience looking after little ones and are happy to watch over yours whilst you have a break... and we know that you really need it!

We offer a free meet and greet session too, so you can ask all the questions and we aren't complete strangers to your little bundle when you pop out.
