This morning, the banks of the River Tweed came alive with the vibrant opening of the 2024 Salmon Fishing Season! π With Cabinet Secretary for Environment in Scottish Government Mairi McCallan speaking, and Her Grace the Duchess of Sutherland leading the ceremonies, to bless the river and make the first cast. The day began steeped in tradition and community spirit right from Kelso Town Hall.
Here are a few moments from the procession, led by pipers and enthusiastic school children, making their way from the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum to the heart of our celebrations on the Coby. The air was filled with the sounds of Scotland, the excitement of anglers, and the promise of a season to remember.
As we cast our lines into the waters, weβre reminded of the beauty that surrounds us and the thrill of the catch that awaits. π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ Whether youβre a seasoned angler or new to the sport, the River Tweed offers something for everyone, nestled in the stunning landscapes that Scotland is famed for.

π The season will be royally inaugurated by Her Grace the Duchess of Sutherland at Kelso Town Hall. The celebration begins at 9am, promising a morning filled with excitement and tradition.
A vibrant procession starting at 9:30am led by pipers and local school children, the parade will start from the River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum, marching all the way to the picturesque banks of the Tweed at the Coby for the official opening.
