What a fantastic 2-weeks it’s has been, working as part of the support team for the inaugural Arctic Montane Spine Race.

It was a pleasure to be part of the team supporting the participants and to watch Kevin Lehay, reach this year's finish line in Jakvikk, Sweden.

The event follows the Kungsleden / King's Trail, from STF Abisko Turiststation, north of the Arctic Circle and we experienced temperatures down to -41!!!

Fourteen competitors started the challenge, with two competing. Ed Sellen was the first to complete the Arctic Spine Challenger in Stora Sjöfallet Mountain Lodge.

Kevin pushed the impossible to reach 306km in Jakvikk, at the Kyrkans Fjällgård Jäkkvik.

It’s now time to pack to leave this amazing winter wonderland and head back to Kiruna, then our flight home on Thursday.

The trip has been full of life lasting memories, and a privalige to work alongside a professional team of medics from Global Expedition Medics, The local Sami community and Outback Abisko.

Until 2025 🇸🇪

On the 70th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary.

“You don't have to be a fantastic hero to do certain things – to compete. You can be just an ordinary chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals”― Sir Edmund Hillary

So nice to be back surrounded by the Lake District mountains. Three Days were inspired by the younger generation who undertook the tough challenge of reaching the summit of Scafell Pike and Helvellyn, the two highest mountains in England. 20 students from year 7, set this challenge to raise money for two charities. The weather gods have been so kind and rewarded us all with amazing views over the three days.

The challenge is to walk over 24 miles, reaching the summit of all three of the highest mountains in Yorkshire, with some 1585m of height gain.
Well done to everybody, you are awesome.
Now on to the next challenge Snowdon on Friday & Saturday, then the National 3 Peaks challenge on Monday.

The first of 6 events we’re organising to raise money to feed those children who need a helping hand.

Good luck Dan Norman & the team.

The group is being expertly led by Clare Holdcroft and David Riley.

We’re heading back to Morocco and The Atlas Mountains at the start of March 2024 for a 5-day winter adventure.

Look out for the booking link soon when we’ve reviewed the best dates to coincide with flights from the UK.

Then in May, we will be back for a Moroccan experience. Trekking in the Atlas, then trekking in the Sahara, staying in an amazing camp. You’ll also get to sample the atmosphere of Marrakesh too.

As you know we don’t normally host challenge events, focusing more on overseas travel experiences. But this inspired us to make an exception because all the money raised from 6 events over 4 weeks goes to help feed youngsters whose families are finding it hard to put food on the table in the UK.

How’s that even a thing?

Look out for inspiration and amazing scenery over the next 3 weeks.

Have a great week.

Our first overseas trip since covid is taking us to Morocco, and another Atlas Mountains winter adventure. I (Darren) arrived in Marrakesh on Saturday evening, and it felt so good to be back!

Today, Sunday I became reacquainted with a damp Marrakesh and enjoyed an hour or two waking around the Medina.

Thankfully the sun returns tomorrow, and I’ll be able to revisit the city and this time stay dry.

Keep an eye out as I’ll be posting more photos, and videos in the week ahead.

Catch you all soon,
Darren.

Here we go…

🛫 We’ve just launched our first overseas trip since lockdown…

Yes, I know it’s been a while in coming 🤣

⏰ Thursday 2nd March - Monday 6th March 2023

💷 £547 (pre-lockdown and pre inflation prices!).

✈️ for your own flexibility, flights are not included. For example only £106 rtn from Manchester.

🗻 5 days tackling the highest peak in North Africa and a night in Marrakesh.

What could be better? 🤔

🚫 No climbing skills are required, you will need to be relatively fit and used to walking in the mountains.

🚶‍♀️We will be using walking crampons, and full training is provided if you’ve not walked with big spikes on your feet before…

😃 If you’re curious, why not pop me a message or if you want to find out more without speaking to me, click the link below 👇 and I’ll send all the information via the interweb.

🌀Places are limited to 10 only and I know where a bar is that serves alcohol in Marrakesh is too 🤓.

🏢 It’s only 5-days out of your life, and you’ll have an amazing time and experience this incredible country, its culture and it’s people.

What’s not to like? ⚽️

Catch you on the flip side… 🥇

Visions of travel
To be successful in every aspect of your life & business, it’s so important to surround yourself with the right team.
This is so very true on our trips and we take great care to select the right partner for our overseas adventures.
Our partners will share similar values and passions, working to invest in the local community, protect our porters' rights, and invest in sustainable environmental projects.
This year we’re introducing a system to offset their carbon footprint too. ✈️🌳

We’re back...after a 2-year break because of you know what...

That is mountains in mind, and to celebrate all things great about adventure travel, we’re revisiting Kilimanjaro in September 2022.

This will be a small personalised group of around 4-6 like-minded people and we’ll be staying in the ever so delightful Weru Weru River Lodge

We will be following the much more peaceful 8-day Lemosho Route, where you’ll see Zebra en route to the trailhead.

Let us take the strain on organising the trip, the logistics, travel restrictions, visas and the flight. This all-inclusive (you buy the beer and wine) trip of a lifetime includes access to the airport lounge whilst we transit in Nairobi.

The investment to you is £3645.

Send me a message or comment on this post and I’ll send over all the details for your perusal.

We all know how things can change very quickly in the world, and dreams can easily be put in the box!

Let’s live our own life today.

Have a super day,
Darren and our Tanzanian team of amazing porters & guides.

Now the world is opening up again, where are you dreaming of travelling to?
We’ve been locked up, locked down and our wings clipped for so long and now it’s time to break free from the confines of our minds!
Travel is a perfect healer, admittedly we will be travelling in a new world, but...
The natural world is the same and we are here to help guide you through all the new, and often confusing travel regulations.
Let’s do it as we truly don’t know what is round the corner - covid-19 has shown us how quickly things can take what we take for granted away from us...

We’ve been very quiet over here at Mountains in Mind lately!
We’ve paused all of our trips due the uncertainty of overseas, especially travel to the more adventurous areas, the areas we like to travel to.
We are praying and hoping we can adapt our trips to be able to offer overseas adventures again in late 2022 and 2023.
We hold onto hope, we have to as this is the main reason I (Darren) quit the rat race was to travel with you all!
The vision I create daily is standing on top of Kilimanjaro for my 9th time, with a group of amazing people. Travelling to new heights of Mount Elbrus and visiting our favourites of MOrocco and friends in Nepal.
Keep the faith - we are and let’s celebrate
