Buxton
Elegant Buxton has been welcoming visitors to enjoy its natural thermal springs and superb setting 300 metres above sea level since Roman times â the highest Market Town in England!
Known then as Aquae Arnemetiae, or the Spa of the Goddess of the Grove, itâs fortunes are currently reviving thanks to the restoration of itâs Grade 1 Listed centrepiece, The Crescent, as a five-star hotel and spa.
When the hotel opens, the townâs famous thermal water, which rises from the earth at a constant temperature of 28 degrees C (82 degrees F), will be used again for spa treatments for the first time in decades.
The Quadrant was designed and built in the mid-1800s for the 5th Duke of Devonshire. The building was later converted and used as the main Post Office & Sorting Office for Buxton. Connexions, the government information, advice, guidance and support service for young people, moved into the building during the 1990s when the Post Office closed. The current owners purchased the building in 2013 and spent 5 years lovingly converting the building into luxury apartments.
The area is very cosmopolitan with an interesting mix of high-quality businesses including independent branded shops, restaurants and bars and luxury residential accommodation.
Another masterpiece is the exquisite Edwardian Opera House, home of internationally- renowned Buxton Festival and host of other festivals, theatre, music and comedy shows throughout the year. Close by is the historic Old Hall Hotel, where ill-fated Mary Queen of Scots was held captive in the 16th Century, while a short walk leads to mysterious Pooleâs Cavern and Buxton Country Park.
The beautifully-landscaped and restored Pavilion Gardens, with its formal borders, lawns, play areas, lake, and family-friendly café and shop are just 3 mins walk from The Quadrant.
Buxton train station is only 2 minuteâs walk from the apartments and has regular, reliable trains to Manchester. Macclesfield train station is a 25 minute drive away and is on the main West Coast train line between London and the North. There is a regular bus service to and from Sheffield. The Transpeak operates from Buxton serving Derby including stops in popular destinations such as Matlock, Bakewell, Cromford and Belper.
Buxton is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding wider Peak District area where you can enjoy stunning scenery, outdoor activities, visit attractions such as the Monsal Trail, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, The Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway and itâs picturesque towns and villages.
