Just been for a very breezy walk around one of the best beaches in North Wales just down from the village of Morfa Nefyn. It's so good because it is very well protected, has a long sandy beach and is quite shallow for a long way out and it has a brilliant pub on the beach called Ty Coch rated as one of the top ten beach bars in the UK.

The walk today was along the beach of Porthdinllaen and then up to the golf course - a golf course on a flat windy peninsula, you've either got to love losing golf balls or spending a lot of time in the 19th hole... going up to the observation tower at the end by the lovely craggy rocks (apparently excellent fishing), then down past the lifeboat station and along the lower part of the headland

Just been to Nant Gwrtheyrn on the other side of The Three Rivals to Trefor, the Welsh Language Centre. They have a great cafe in a fabulous spot overlooking the bay, which is a nice bonus.. Also an interesting walk along the stony beach with lovely views across to and and interesting remnants of the old quarry workings from this isolated quarry village.

And came across quite a few of the "elusive" Llyn peninsula goats which thrive on The Three Rivals. Here are a few pics of some cute nannies and kids when I was up on the hill looking at some of the old quarry workings.

I've always been fascinated by the old disused granite quarry at Trefor. The buildings are the same colour as the granite it was taking and now those buildings and workings are being taken back by those same hills. It's the poetic justice that I particularly like, that and nature getting back control. What is left is amazing in its own right as the remnants of a regional major industry alongside slate works. At Trefor they offer a charming backdrop to the rugged beauty of the hills.

It's clearly been of enough interest for the makers of the producers to use the quarry for recent filming of the next series based on . Here are some of my favourite pictures for you to make your own mind up

Got down to the cottage at Trefor for 6pm today through rain and low cloud so you couldn’t see beyond half way up the hills. But Trefor is amazing because very often as evening comes on, the cloud clears enough on the coast to allow the sun to shine through and tonight was no exception. We rushed down to the cliffs as soon as we arrived and were pleased enough to see the sun peak through the clouds as a little golden orb. But then the colours started to radiate out behind the clouds to give beautiful subtle pinks and oranges. The pictures taken on my phone don’t do it justice, but Trefor delivered again..

This is just one of the fabulous walks around Trefor and is a circular walk from our cottage around by the old granite quarry on Yr Eifl (The Three Rivals), Through the lovely little valley of Morfa, the National Trust coastal pasture reserve, and down to the cliffs of the West End. From here you can either walk down to the beach with the extra large granite pebbles and boulders or amble along the cliffs until they gently slope down to the stony beach and on to the Trefor Beach and it its protective solid granite pier. Then a short walk back to Pen Y Bont.

This is the first in a series of walks in and around Trefor. One of my favourite spots on the Peninsula, North Wales, and possibly anywhere is Tre'r Ceiri, on of the 3 Yr Eifl's, the tallest hills on the Llyn Peninsula.
The key thing about it is that it is the site of one of the finest iron age hill forts in Northern Europe. It is made of dry stone and you would have thought it impregnable, but not to the Romans.. From up here you can get a real understanding of how the residents would have lived their harsh life as much of the protective wall is still in place and many of the foundations of the 50 buildings.
I love the views across both sides of the Peninsula and the view right down Cardigan Bay to who knows where? And you can see Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon) and allegedly the mountains of Wicklow….

This is from a recent guest to our holiday home:

"We stayed as a family of 5 and our 2 year old Rottweiler and we all had the best time! The cottage had everything you could need for the perfect stay. It was so clean (credit to the housekeeper!) and in a great location. The walk to the beach down the road (10 minutes) was easy and the views were stunning. Then a 5 minute walk up the road there were more beautiful views and lovely walks too. Snowdon, Zipworld (Ffestiniog) and Aber Falls were highlights of the week for us and all easy to get to - and super dog friendly! Would totally recommend it for a holiday"

There's something about the coast at Trefor, that even when it's grey and miserable elsewhere inland, the sky often clears enough to give us some fantastic sunsets. The clouds heighten the atmospheric sensation.

What I love about Trefor is the variety of landscapes and beautiful scenery all about. This is a stunning location I never get tired of, one of the iconic 3 hills of Yr Eifl - The Three Rivals. They can be seen all along the coast and are beautiful from any view. The Wales Coastal Path runs right along the cliff and then up and through the hills as it wends it way along the Llyn peninsula. You can see these stunning hills from the cottage and it's a ten minute walk to the foot of them. Then however long you want to get to the top....
