As of August 22, 2024, the UK's total trade with Vietnam for the four quarters ending in Q1 2024 was £6 billion, a 13.8% decrease from the same period in 2023. This includes £969 million in exports, a 14.1% decrease, and £5 billion in imports, a 13.7% decrease. In May 2024, the UK's top exports to Vietnam were: Recovered paper (£8.19 million), Packaged medicaments (£3.43 million), Knit women's suits (£3.1 million), Hard liquor (£2.75 million), and Animal meal and pellets (£2.4 million).
Some say that the UK's expertise in clean growth, technology, and digitalization could be relevant to Vietnam's growth goals. Vietnam has committed to reaching net zero by 2050, phasing out coal power, and ensuring food security for its growing population.
