Pedn Vounder Beach is one of the most beautiful and hidden beaches in Cornwall, England.

It’s located near the village of Treenn and sits at the bottom of steep cliffs in the Penwith Peninsula.

The beach is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise water, golden sand, and dramatic cliffs, making it look like something from the Caribbean!

One of the things that makes Pedn Vounder special is its tidal sandbar.

At low tide, the water is very shallow, creating a lagoon-like effect where the sea looks extra blue and calm.

But at high tide, the beach becomes much smaller, and the waves can be strong, so it’s important to check the tide times before visiting.

If you visit, remember to respect the site and leave it as you found it.

Port Isaac is a charming, picturesque fishing village located on the north coast of Cornwall, England. It's known for its narrow, winding streets, whitewashed cottages, and stunning coastal views. The village is built into a steep valley that descends down to a small harbour, with boats still moored there, giving it a timeless, traditional feel.

Port Isaac is particularly famous for being the filming location of the popular British TV series Doc Martin, starring Martin Clunes. The village and its surrounding areas have become quite a tourist draw because of the show, with visitors flocking to see landmarks like the Doc Martin surgery or the local pub, the Fisherman's Friends, named after the real-life a ca****la group that performs traditional sea shanties.

Beyond its fame on the screen, Port Isaac also has a rich maritime history. It was once a busy fishing port, especially for pilchard fishing, and the village still has a strong fishing community today. Its coastal location makes it a popular spot for walkers, with several scenic trails leading along the cliffs and down to nearby beaches like Port Gaverne.

The village is also known for its cosy, laid-back atmosphere that invites visitors to relax, explore the coastal scenery, and enjoy the local food, particularly seafood.

There are plenty of eateries, including Michelin star winner Nathan Outlaw's New Road and Fish Kitchen.

So, if you're into history, local culture, good food or just want a peaceful, picturesque place to visit, Port Isaac has a lot to offer!

The Story of Emily is a fresh, immersive historical experience I St Ive, ten minutes from Harpers Cottage. A tale of incredible bravery, determination and impact. It shines the light on an inspirational woman from Cornwall who challenged the social norms of the Victorian era and changed the lives of thousands of women and children during the Second Anglo-Boer War.

We visited the War Rooms at the museum today. They were incredible. One minute you’ve got 360 goggles on and are in a concentration camp in the Transvaal, the next you’re in a train compartment that moves, feels and sounds like a train. And all the while recoiling of the horror that Britain wreaked on the Boers (farmers) so they could get hold of the gold that the Transvaal and Orange Free State had to offer.
Some 28,000 women and children died in the camps having seen their homes burned to the ground and their animals slaughtered. Little wonder this isn’t taught in schools; who really wants to know that the Empire set up these death camps?
Emily was born in St Ive at the rectory there and it has been beautifully restored. It is just ten minutes from where we live. To think from her humble beginnings she became a thorn in Kitchener’s side as she exposed the horrors and futility of war is an amazing and beautifully told life.
Her ashes were taken to S Africa and placed under the memorial to the women and children that died.

If you visit Cornwall this year you must go to St Ive and visit the rectory and the war rooms. You will be deeply touched.

The Story of Emily is a wonderful immersive experience about the life of a woman born in Cornwall who made her name in the Boer War. The rectory where she was born has been beautifully recreated and the War Museum is amazing. There is also a restaurant serving authentic S African dishes. And it’s only ten minutes from Harpers Cottage.
