Guests who’ve visited in the past year or so will know about the community market garden Spence has been instrumental in setting up with a small bunch of others here. Yesterday we were in the actual real paper, having given the journo and photographer the tour last week. It was lovely to chat, share the CIC’s plans and give our thoughts on the local socio-political landscape. Always love giving an opinion when asked! 😁

Excited to share that Spence (one of our directors) and India were interviewed for The Guardian's feature about North Cornwall as part of their election coverage last week and we're in today's paper! Spence talked about our vision at Nourish Kernow CIC, the importance of community supported agriculture locally, the challenges of start-up funding, and the burgeoning care farm once things are up and running. We're passionate about making locally-grown veggies and green activities accessible to everyone in our community and beyond. Alas, only a little bit of that info made it into the article and although we didn't get a direct name check, it's fantastic for our work to be referenced in such a renowned publication. Did you read it and what did you think of it as a snapshot of Camelford?

We are gearing up to launch a crowdfunder soon to help cover some of the initial costs and bring our plans to life. Stay tuned for more updates and find out how you can get involved. Together, we can make a difference!

We had a blast night watching What an awesome and perfect venue and only 20 mins up the road from us! It’s the first time we’ve been and were so impressed by the set up, the friendly staff, plenty of bars and food, no litter and such a great atmosphere. The music was fantastic and everyone was letting their hair down and just dancing away. And we even got out and on our way quickly at the end. Spence wants to come back to see on 21 July now too, I think there might be a few tickets left. I can’t wait to see what they have planned in the future, it’s a perfect venue for all kinds of shows and I’ll be watching closely.

Did you catch the Camel Trail episode of BBC Countryfile on Sunday? It was a lovely meander through some of the highlights of the locale. Why not come and experience it for yourselves? We can wholly recommend it for a family day out cycling, with the start just 4 miles from here. And it’s worth a stop off at Camel Valley Vineyard to pick up a bottle for your return to camp.

Country File are focusing on the Camel Trail in this evenings episode. I'm sure some of you will enjoy watching as they are covering a bit of the history and some of the lesser known areas, as well as the most popular!

Ta da! Did you know that this year, you can stay on the farm in your tent? But with a touch of luxury not usually available at normal campsites…

Leave your stuff in your own private bathroom and enjoy shared use of the kitchens - with a fridge, kettle, microwave and toaster, making camping with kids SOOOOO much easier than faffing about with your stove for the morning brew or losing your toothbrush in a field.

After animal feeding together, head out to enjoy the rugged north Cornwall coast, its beaches, bays and ports, or head inland to the moors or Eden Project.

Camping pitches are bookable in the school holidays and some weekends. If you’re looking for a little exclusive family-friendly farm campsite for a few memorable days away, then check us out. Still some May half term availability in either a pod or pitch too.

Happening here next weekend. Reserve your free space now!

If you're thinking about getting away for a couple of days over Easter, there are lots of great things happening nearby during the holidays. Here are our top 6 suggestions…

Lanhydrock National Trust (16 miles, 30 mins from here) have a special family Easter egg trail, no booking required. You could also tick off some activities on the very popular '50 Things To Do Before You're 11 3/4' together. Under 5s are free.

Pencarrow House & Gardens (10 miles, 20 mins), a lovely family-owned stately home and gardens, belonging to the same family for 500 years, are also running an Easter egg hunt. Children go free.

(17miles, 30 mins) reopens at Easter with lots of exciting new additions for 2024 including adventure golf and a magical playground, as well as their many rides for little ones. You might even meet the Easter Bunny! Free returns for seven days with your tickets.

(21 miles, 40 mins) are having Springfest during the school holidays. Celebrate the joys of spring with plenty of family-friendly games, crafts and activities for all ages. Under 5s free. Pre-booking advised.

(14 miles, 22 mins) is a lovely puzzle park towards Launceston with a good hedge maze, puzzle trails, play area, miniature railway and the Forbidden Mansion. Perfect for kids from about 3 to 8 with something for all. They aren't doing any Easter things that I know of, but it's well worth a mention!

Although it's over the border in Devon, (24 miles, 30 mins) is a really special place where you can ride the exhibits! And make sure you do visit, as 2024 is their last year! Climb onboard the Moonrocket, ride the dodgems or have a gentle go on the Victory Gallopers. Then lose your body weight in coppers on the penny slots!

So that’s our top list for Easter fun, have we missed anything that you know of? Any recommendations?

Bodmin Moor is on our doorstep and you “can” technically walk to Brown W***y from the farm (but as it’s a five-minute drive to Roughtor car park, that’s a much better bet for our little family!) We’ve done Roughtor many times but this year have resolved to continue on to Cornwall’s highest peak for the first time - at a whopping 419m!

Miles from cities and motorways, the Cornish backdrop to Louis de Bernières’s latest novel is a place for spooky hikes and a real escape from the 21st century

GROUP OFFER: Wouldn’t it be nice to get together with everyone for a weekend in the spring? How about a little group getaway in beautiful north Cornwall? With the whole site to yourselves, after a day of coastal adventures, gather round the campfire in the evening to toast marshmallows, cook dinner together and chat into the night once the kids are down, knowing that you’re not disturbing other campers.

We’ve decided to extend our 2024 group offer for a couple more weeks:
10% off AND exclusive site use whether you book all five pods or just four when you book direct with us! (We’ll block out the fifth). Great for groups of friends and families with little ones.

Use code JANUARY10 to apply discount. Link and more info on our page.

Have a great Twixmas!

“There’s a brilliant area with fire pit and benches where you can sit and chat… or share a fire/bbq/marshmallows. As a plus, this area is well set up so you can watch the kids in the play area and sand pit, which to be honest is pretty much where our kids wanted to be most of the time! The daily animal feeds were a firm favourite, a great way to encourage the kids to get up and dressed too. We’re already considering a return trip next year to relax and explore more of the area, and revisit some bits again! Well deserving of each of their 5 stars.“

We love welcoming our guests to share the farm with us and have no plans on changing that, but next year we will see something a little different happening here too! We’ve been involved with starting up a non-profit community market garden based here at the farm with the hope of doing veg boxes and lots of other volunteer opportunities from next summer. You can follow the project over at Nourish Kernow CIC.

In the meantime, we’re planning a few updates to the pods and site improvements over winter and will let you know of exciting changes when they happen.

2023 has been a bit of a practice run for us. We’ve held a couple of fun market garden events to gauge interest which connected us with our first volunteers and directors, we officially formed as a Community Interest Company (a non-profit social enterprise) in July and started growing together this summer.

We’re hoping, that with lots of hard work and some extra support, we will be able to start doing our first few weekly veg boxes in 2024 with produce grown using organic principles right here in Camelford, as well as offering more regular volunteer opportunities and events for those who want them. More news on that in the new year as things tick along behind the scenes.

Whether you’re interested in our veg box membership scheme, volunteering (growing or otherwise), events, learning, partnership opportunities or just curious, join us here on our journey, to find out more as things develop, or sign up to the mailing list, link in bio.

We’re looking forward to the year ahead. In the meantime, here’s a little throwback to one of our volunteer morning’s harvests back in early September.

Farewell to the fab furry five! Those who get our irregular email already knew this was coming as we’re taking the farm in another direction (more on that another time). Today was the big day and they have moved onto pastures new where they will be very well looked after on a much bigger farm with cottages over the border in Devon. They even have pet pigs, cows, sheep and rhea for company, plus their own field and patch of woodland. Their lovely new owners are experienced with alpacas and they’re all together still which we’re really happy about, although it was very sad to see them go. May they bring lots of joy to you and your guests, Jane and Ian. 😊
