Why We Use Salt! Here at Juliots Well we look at the way we treat our local eco system and a few years ago decided to carry out an experiment with salt! We had used your typical weedkillers for many years and thought lets give this old wives tale a real trial, with our large areas of block paving the weeds love it, so we set an area out and compared the efficacy of Salt Vs Roundup…. The results were astounding – the salt killed the weeds quicker and out lasted the roundup by weeks. Not only is the salt better for the ecosystems we have here on park, it’s a cheaper option to the traditional sprays and does a better job.

Spotted at Juliots Well! The common cockchafer is the UK's largest scarab beetle (scarabs include dung beetles and chafers). With its rusty-brown wing cases, pointed 'tail' and fan-like antennae it is unmistakable. It is a clumsy flier and makes a buzzing sound. Often spotted in May evenings buzzing about.

This little buzzer is called a "Blood Bee" – but don't let the name fool you! Although parasitic, they're much more interested in finding their food from the local wildflowers and fruit trees! Living a solitary life, they look to "take over" other insect nests to lay their own eggs and here, you can see this one searching for its next ground nest! 🐝
