Dr James Beaney died in Melbourne in 1881, he left in his will £ 10,000 for his home town Canterbury. That was the start for the institute for education of the working man - the Beaney.

Westgate in Canterbury is the largest surviving city gate in England.

Here it is pictured 200 years ago compared to today, it's still 60-foot high and was built around 1379. It's the last survivor of Canterbury's seven medieval gates, read more 👇
