The perfect day trip from London - reposted from the wonderful @glassesandboardingpasses. Here's their guide to a great day out in the city!
🌻 This city is full of history, cobblestone streets, and old timber buildings - exactly what you think of when imaging medieval England! With plenty to see, this is the perfect day trip from London. Here’s an itinerary to make the most of your day!
🚂 8am: Catch the train out of London and enjoy the hour-long ride to the Canterbury West station.
🌷 9am: Wander through Westgate Gardens. In the summer, there are beautiful flowers by the river! You can also pick up a punting boat tour here.
⛪️ 11am: Visit Canterbury Cathedral. This breathtaking church is one of the oldest in England! It’s also been a pilgrimage site for hundreds of years, inspiring the prolific novel The Canterbury Tales!
🍽️ 1pm: Grab lunch at the Old Weavers House. This 16th-century timber building is as unique on the inside as it is on the outside!
🏛️ 2pm: Walk off lunch and head over to St. Martin’s Church. With parts over 1,500 years old, this tiny church is the oldest still existing church in the English speaking world.
📚 3pm: Go back into town and wander through the cobblestone streets and historic buildings. Don’t miss a stop by the Crooked House, a bookshop that’s perpetually slanted sideways. (Don’t worry, it’s safe and stable!)
🍷 4pm: Have a snack and drink at Corkk, a wine shop specializing in English wines. This is one of the best wine bars we’ve ever been to - the staff were so friendly and taught us a lot about this under-appreciated wine region!
🦜 5pm: Grab one final drink at the Parrot Pub, the oldest pub in Canterbury (it dates back to the 1400s!). Then hop on the train and head back to London after a full day of exploring!
Doesn’t Canterbury look charming?
