The beautiful building and what we want to do We, the Gremlins, who live with the squatters have to decide to use this building as a free community space.
The building itself is at the heart of our project, although the people who visit us make Gremlin Alley what it is. Gremlins don't believe that this building should be sold out to a big business or become flats (we have plenty of both), we are creating a freely organised community social space. We would like it to be strongly focused on community support, inspiration and sharing of all kinds (reso
urces, skills and experience). After a tiresome month for the residents, we have had our first event, an acoustic gig/poetry night/ open mic evening. This gig provided enormous amounts of hope, inspiration and positivity. Hearing friends reactions and even great enthusiasm from many (ex) strangers, we have been filled with new energy. So far, we have a list of ideas for the space, and would love to hear yours to make them happen (all for free!):
-A freely organised social space
-Cafe
-Music Venue/ lessons and workshops
-Arts & Crafts workshops/ exhibits
-Street art workshops (stencils, wheat pasting, freehand etc)
-Community roof garden (to provide free vegetables and flowers)
-Performance art workshops/ events (plays, circus, dance, larping)
-Skate Park
-Climbing wall & obstacle course
-Parkour and Freerunning lessons
-Support groups (for people with problems with drugs, alchohol, sexuality, bullying, discrimination, depression, anxiety, shopping)
We understand there’s a lot of work cut out for the future, but there’s certainly no time like the present to get started on things! So please, drop us a message or even a visit with any ideas, advice and thoughts on what you would like to see happen in Gremlin Alley! Anything is possible! Information on events will be posted here, aswell as on our website. Keep an eye out for new things! peace :)

TREE HUGGING NOW SCIENTIFICALLY VALIDATED
In a recently published book called Blinded by Science, the author Matthew Silverstone, proves scientifically that trees do in fact improve many health issues such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), concentration levels, reaction times, depression and other forms of mental illness. He even points to research indicating a tree's ability to alleviate headaches in humans seeking relief by communing with trees.
The author points to a number of studies that have shown that children show significant psychological and physiological improvement in terms of their health and well being when they interact with plants and trees. Specifically, the research indicates that children function better cognitively and emotionally in green environments and have more creative play in green areas. Also, he quotes a major public health report that investigated the association between green spaces and mental health concluded that "access to nature can significantly contribute to our mental capital and wellbeing."
So what is it about nature that can have these significant effects? Up until now it has been thought to be the open green spaces that cause this effect. However, Matthew Silverstone, shows that it is nothing to do with this by proving scientifically that it is the vibrational properties of trees and plants that give us the health benefits and not the open green spaces.

Who is the queen and why does she have birth right to so much land? Austerity is killing people and mother earth is not owned by a piece of paper. Lets not f**k up nature please, lets all stay on earth and have a nice place for our children (if we have any) to live. Nuclear weapons came to soon for our not yet peaceful planet. We need to learn peace before more .. & more... & more arms... Peace to all. xo

Bring a dish if possible, or help cook from 4pm. Supplies to cook needed! Bute dock hotel, west bute st, the bay. This will likely be our only event due to court on Tuesday.
