It would be reasonable to claim that Tongwynlais is now poppy capital of Wales and the UK. They're everywhere. Adding genuine resonance is the fact that organisers have dedicated each poppy to a local who made the ultimate sacrifice. What a lovely thing to do.

Nant Fawr spectre
Rambling unlikely backstory: during the lengthy clear-out of the previous Cardiff Central Library in the weeks and months before the Council closed it for good ahead of demolition, a friend of ours who had access to the archive room (second floor, leaked badly) found a box of old floppy disks at the back of a forgotten, locked cupboard. The shoe box was labelled "Haunted". Shoved in our friend's garage until a recent house sale, the diskettes remained unchecked till last week. What the disks contained, once we dug out an old Amiga 500 and loaded them, gave us the proverbial heebie-jeebies. Over the next week, in the lead up to Halloween, we will be publishing the images from this previously unseen collection. If you know who might have taken these images please let us know. For all supernatural sightings of your own, please call Ghostbusters.

Cariad am y caws (for the love of cheese) is the slogan of , one of the UK's top 7 cheese shops 2024 according to the Sunday Times, and "bloody brilliant" according to my wife. Excellent cheeses, excellent wines and excellent friends (BYO mates) – surely the ingredients to a superb night out in . Thanks to Owen for posing and his warm hospitality last night.

Cardiff High has changed its name to Copsefield School. (For the filming of drama Undeclared War, we're told. Is it set in the 'Port?)

"Can I take a photo of your 'helpful' sign?"
"I thought people might need a laugh at this gruelling point in the course."

Yeah, you could be in Mallorca instead, but they don't have this.

I Loves The 'Diff has turned 15! Yep, we began way back in '09 when we were younger and wilder. This is one of my favourite Roath pics. From 2012

Shocking and sad news out of Canton today. Carl Bevan was a brilliant artist and drummer and a very nice and funny man. A massive loss. Sending our love and condolences to his daughter and partner and family, as well as his many friends. Gone way, way too soon.

If you go down to Heath Park today, you're in for a big surprise... Created by , a corner of one of Cardiff's biggest parks has become a haven for families going through the hardest of times. In a website post from last week the charity states: "The Celebration of Life garden in has a bear theme and even looks like a giant teddy bear from the sky.
"The peaceful area...stands just a stone's throw from Wales' largest hospital and has the aim of giving families whose children are having hospital treatment a place to get away for a time. There is a picnic area and a bear trail for the children to enjoy."

One for the teachers.... Phew! Last day of school today. Rather than some glorious victory lap, as ever it feels that we (my family) stagger over the finish line, done-in, a ragged rabble. (This evil cold/bug thing that won't quit isn't helping. Anyone else suffering?) Anyway, the inspirational cup quote as seen in in the context of this post isn't intended as inward looking, it isn't even forward looking - no, this is for the teachers (especially 'our' teachers – you may know who you are, Ms W). If it can be construed as such, it's a massive THANK YOU. 'You got this' teaching lark down to an art and you're brilliant. 'You got this' year over and done with ✅ and you nailed it, and I know for a fact that our kid is all the better for having been taught by you and been supported and befriended by you. Diolch!

Cladding going on at Central Quay. The CGI shows sections are to be installed offset presumably to give people headaches.

Higher education wasn't what it once was...😁
Have long admired this and wanted to celebrate it before it got painted over. The fact it's on Letty Street – pun intended, d'you think?

Bet it was quicker to build.

On weekends, it's just lush to get away from it all... in central Cardiff.

Seems appropriate in between the Manics/Suede double-bill double header at , to post our poster from 2015. Mad to think that James Dean Bradfield can get to the Cardiff Castle gigs from his house through beautiful parkland, without going near a road. What a city. .illustration

Hometown Lockdown
This lockdown has been (effective and necessary, yes, but) interminable. We miss Cardiff city centre. We miss the pubs and bars. We can't wait till this is all over...in the meantime, hope you enjoy this little video. (Track: EZ Music; vocals by Kevin On featuring Roo Bina.)
New from the “Huw Mingus Quantet” is this long lost Beatles track, Pen Y Lan – a quality send-up indeed. Enjoy this clip, sent by Brendan and sis Liz. Full version is on YouTube: https://t.co/ZLl1fr9DE3?amp=1

I Loves The 'Diff celebrates the Welsh capital in a way nobody's done before. This multi award winning cult brand, which has been havin’ a laff on the Taff since 2009, is for anyone with a passion for Cardiff, or the 'Diff as some of us affectionately call this great little city. It’s inclusive – if you gets it, you’re in the clwb.
Some of our products, such as the Cardiff Heart, and Cardiffornia brand, are inspired by the Welsh capital while others, like the Taffywood (Welshified film title) gifts tickle the great Welsh sense of humour. Our Taffywood gifts are sold in gift shops throughout Wales.
Bursting with great ideas, we’ve featured in all local and Welsh media, gone viral (in a good way), been featured on BBC’s The One Show (Cheers Drive t-shirt worn by Alex Jones), on Radio One with our famous Cardiff Bus Song, and on UK national telly (sadly derailed but very popular Cardiff Underground). We even created a TV show for Made In Cardiff TV celebrating Cardiff’s burger scene (it was lush – The Lansdowne pub won).
With a strong social media presence (64,000+ Twitter followers ain’t bad), we like to share what’s good about our hometown, and let people know what’s occurrin’. We also write a monthly Echo column.
We’ve worked with many local designers, and organisations such as Cardiff Airport, St David’s Cardiff and Welsh Government in order to make a splash – and sometimes raise some cash for a great cause, including homeless charities The Wallich, The Huggard and Llamau. (In 2017, with the not inconsiderable help of St David’s shopping centre, we raised £30,000 for these three charities with a popular limited edition poster campaign.) If you would like to discuss an idea or project, please drop us a message.
Please visit ilovesthediff.com to buy some lush goodies, or to find out more about us.
