Formed in 2011, Cardiff University Jazz Society offers students performing and playing opportunities

Cardiff University Jazz Society was formed in October 2011 from the long-established Big Band Society and is affiliated to the Cardiff University Students' Union. The society offers students the opportunity to perform, listen to, and appreciate live jazz music. They run several ensembles that perform regularly throughout each academic year and support students who wish to form and run their own gr

oups. The current selection includes an auditioned big band, a jazz orchestra, a sax ensemble and a jazz choir. They run monthly Jam Nights in a local venue, and each summer go on tour. Previous tours have included Montreux Jazz Festival (2014), Ghent Jazz Festival (2015), Amsterdam (2016) and Lake Geneva (2017). This society also brings its members together to listen to, and appreciate, live jazz music with other like-minded students. Regular socials include going to gigs in bars around Cardiff as well as concerts promoted by the School of Music and other jazz venues in South Wales. Whether your interest is in the performance or appreciation of jazz music, this is the society for you - membership is just £10 per academic year. So excited to announce everything we have going on in the Jazz Society during Freshers week!!

We can’t wait to finally meet the first years and be reunited with returning members, it’s looking to be a great year already🎷

We will shortly be posting a series of “Meet the MDs” videos for our ensembles which will include confirmed rehearsal dates and a summary of what each ensemble will be playing this year, so stay tuned for that!

Joining her is Laurie Rich on keys, Benedict Stephens on bass, and Tom Williams from RWCMD on drums!!
Come on down to hear a combination of standards, tied together with tunes by the likes of Jacob Collier and Esperanza Spalding, it’s going to be a fantastic evening!

Cardiff Star have offered us great opportunity to collaborate and feature in one of their conversation classes!!

Cardiff Star are very active in terms of fundraising and assisting refugees. Their weekly conversation classes allow asylum seekers and refugees to practice their English and discuss a wide variety of topics.

We’re looking for a maximum of 20 students to get involved, message us, Darcy, or Leizel for more information or to register your interest!!
