Montgomery Canal last week 🌿
Walking or cycling along the towpath is a great way to experience the peace and tranquility of this rural canal in .
‘The Monty’, as it’s often called, stretches from Newtown to Llanymynech and continues over the border into England to Frankton Locks where it joins the Llangollen Canal.
Several nature reserves border the canal, filled with wildflowers and insects, including dragonflies and damselflies.

Wow 🤩
Mid Wales was treated to a breathtaking display last night from the .
Don’t worry if you missed it! They’re also set to light up the skies tonight 😍
BBC News: “Weather conditions are ideal with clear skies but it needs to be dark, so you'll need to wait until at least 22:30 BST.
At this time of year, when nights are shorter, 23:30 into the early hours of the morning is when the night is darkest.
The activity of the lights itself is more unpredictable, the Met Office says, so expect it to ebb and flow with different colours in different places at different times.”

Hello sunshine 😎
Don't get us wrong, Wales is stunning whatever the weather... but there's something about a sea view on a sunny day that instantly puts a smile on our faces.
The sun is certainly shining here in Mid & West Coast Wales 🌞
Thanks to 📷 for capturing this gorgeous shot on one of their favourite loops along the Wales Coast Path from St Tysilio, nr Cwmtydu.
This circular walk takes you from the secluded cove of Cwmtydu and over hills alive with birds and butterflies. After you’ve explored the caves and pebble beach of Cwmtydu, follow the Wales Coast Path with the sea to your left to climb up the cliffs. You’ll pass the clifftop remains of Castell Bach Iron Age fort before dropping down into Cwm Silio at the mouth of the River Soden.

Congratulations to Presteigne and Norton - certified as the first International Dark Sky Community in Wales.
This achievement represents a unique community collaboration to pursue a dark sky ambition by tackling light pollution. Covering an outer area of 40 square kilometers and a combined population of 2,700, the historic Radnorshire towns of Presteigne and Norton are located in Powys, the largest and most rural county in Wales.
Visitors interested in the night sky should book a guided tour of The Spaceguard Centre in nearby Knighton, which is a working observatory, and the main source of information about near Earth objects in the UK.
And there are many more places to visit nearby, too. Just take a look:

Huge thanks to #📷 @sorcha_lewis for sharing this beautiful video of the Aurora Borealis over the #elanvalley and for the beautiful story you told 👇😍❤ Shimmering was the Elan Valley night! It was spellbinding... There is no other word for a night like this here in the hills. I was just heading out the door when by luck I got a message buzz from my phone to say "possible aurora visible from Scotland". Everything was lined up to be perfect. It was -4 ish and the ground was crunchy and with every step taken the ground glimmered and sparkled under neath. The moon was high and bright and her rays sent the frost coated landscape into a carpet of diamond dust 💎...a giant glitter world stretched out before me. I made a bit of a detour from my planned night location to see if there was any colour in the sky. The moon being bright had washed the sky out and not much could be seen from the naked eye. However my trusty camera did her best to locate the magic in the scene ahead. Yes it was there! dancing on the glitz of the distant hills. I heard a fox bark and this reminded me of the lore of the Mythical fire foxes! In Finland, the name for the Northern Lights is "revontulet"; translated as ‘fire fox’. The myth is that Arctic foxes produced the Aurora. They would run through the sky so fast that their large furry tails would brush against the mountains; this created the sparks that lit up the sky. I spent many hours trying to catch the magic. I did make a little video included. Its a little washed out but i didn't want to edit it too much ....I just wanted to preserve the moment as it was. Only the souls of the lights for company as the hills were quiet. No distracting vehicle headlights, no torches and strange voices carried. It felt perfectly safe and at home. I headed off for a few more photos and then headed to bed at about 2am. When I awoke the next morning it was cloudy and moist......had it all just been a beautiful dream?........... My p
With the bank holiday fast approaching, we would love to hear from our Mid Wales veterans. What's your favourite place to visit? Have you got any favourite haunts?, hidden treasures? secret spots? Maybe it's not a physical place, but a feeling or a memory that makes you love Mid Wales as much as we do ❤ If so, we would love to hear from you ❤
Whos got what going on this weekend? In Wales up to 3 households (+support household) can now form an 'exclusive household/bubble' - This means you and your exclusive, can finally get together and go on holiday! woop woop! 😁🤸♂️🤸♀️ All year, all we have wanted to do is get out and see our friends and family and now we can 🥰 Personally we're happy with some space, some sun and each other (and possibly a few beers 😉) If this sounds like your ideal, then you are our people, and Mid Wales is probably the place for you 👍 Remember though, we're not out of the woods yet, so let's not get over excited and forget all that we have learnt over the last 15 months - Get tested before you travel and remember to stick to the guidelines. That way we can all continue to do the things we love, with the people we love ❤ www.visitmidwales.co.uk #RealMidWales #VisitMidWales
