Did you know that Mid Wales is home to not one, but two International Dark Sky Reserves, the Brecon Beacons National Park, and Snowdonia National Park, as well as an Internationally recognised Dark Sky Park at Elan Valley? 🌟✨ But that's not all! Across the region, there are also a number of 'Discovery Sites' where, on a clear night, you can see the Milky Way, major constellations, nebulas, and even shooting stars!
It's no wonder that Mid Wales is one of the best places in the world for stargazing, and we're celebrating Welsh Dark Skies Week (17th - 26th Feb) in style! 🥳 So grab your telescope, pack your blankets, and head out to one of the many dark sky spots in #MidWales. You won't be disappointed!
Thank you to @Dafydd Wyn Morgan and the @Cambrian Mountains Initiative for sharing these beautiful shots that perfectly captures the magic of the night sky in Mid Wales. 📸

We don't need overcrowded beaches, airports of doom, or overpriced gift shops full of tat to say 'we've been on holiday'.
A picnic on Ynyslas Beach sounds pretty good to us!
Massive thanks to @our.little.welsh.adventure for sharing your little moments of joy, and reminding us that it is the small things that really matter 🥰#MakingMemories #RealMidWales #VisitMidWales #MidWales #Ceredigion #VisitWales

Huge thanks to #📷 @sorcha_lewis for sharing this beautiful video of the Aurora Borealis over the #elanvalley and for the beautiful story you told 👇😍❤
Shimmering was the Elan Valley night!
It was spellbinding...
There is no other word for a night like this here in the hills. I was just heading out the door when by luck I got a message buzz from my phone to say "possible aurora visible from Scotland".
Everything was lined up to be perfect. It was -4 ish and the ground was crunchy and with every step taken the ground glimmered and sparkled under neath. The moon was high and bright and her rays sent the frost coated landscape into a carpet of diamond dust 💎...a giant glitter world stretched out before me.
I made a bit of a detour from my planned night location to see if there was any colour in the sky. The moon being bright had washed the sky out and not much could be seen from the naked eye. However my trusty camera did her best to locate the magic in the scene ahead. Yes it was there! dancing on the glitz of the distant hills.
I heard a fox bark and this reminded me of the lore of the Mythical fire foxes!
In Finland, the name for the Northern Lights is "revontulet"; translated as ‘fire fox’. The myth is that Arctic foxes produced the Aurora. They would run through the sky so fast that their large furry tails would brush against the mountains; this created the sparks that lit up the sky.
I spent many hours trying to catch the magic. I did make a little video included. Its a little washed out but i didn't want to edit it too much ....I just wanted to preserve the moment as it was.
Only the souls of the lights for company as the hills were quiet. No distracting vehicle headlights, no torches and strange voices carried. It felt perfectly safe and at home.
I headed off for a few more photos and then headed to bed at about 2am. When I awoke the next morning it was cloudy and moist......had it all just been a beautiful dream?...........
My p
With the bank holiday fast approaching, we would love to hear from our Mid Wales veterans.
What's your favourite place to visit? Have you got any favourite haunts?, hidden treasures? secret spots? Maybe it's not a physical place, but a feeling or a memory that makes you love Mid Wales as much as we do ❤ If so, we would love to hear from you ❤
Whos got what going on this weekend?
In Wales up to 3 households (+support household) can now form an 'exclusive household/bubble' - This means you and your exclusive, can finally get together and go on holiday! woop woop! 😁🤸♂️🤸♀️
All year, all we have wanted to do is get out and see our friends and family and now we can 🥰
Personally we're happy with some space, some sun and each other (and possibly a few beers 😉) If this sounds like your ideal, then you are our people, and Mid Wales is probably the place for you 👍
Remember though, we're not out of the woods yet, so let's not get over excited and forget all that we have learnt over the last 15 months - Get tested before you travel and remember to stick to the guidelines. That way we can all continue to do the things we love, with the people we love ❤
