Manaslu Expedition
My personal expedition to climb to the summit of the 8th tallest mountain has finally begun the trekking phase. It feels good after all the travelling to finally be using my legs to make progress.
We will make Manaslu Basecamp next Tuesday, and from there on the fun really starts!
I'll update you all in due course.
The 'Out of Office' goes on today, as tomorrow I'm off on my first personal expedition since 2013!
I'm off to tackle the 8th tallest mountain in the world, the 'Mountain of the Spirit' - Manaslu. Standing at 8,163m this is by far the biggest challenge I've undertaken in the world of mountaineering, and will no doubt be an expedition of many highs and lows.
I was fortunate enough to trek the incredible Manaslu Circuit in 2017, and it is a very special part of Nepal. I spent 2 weeks gawping up at this giant mountain, always wondering if I'd have the opportunity to climb to the summit of an '8000er'.
Shortly after Covid, when we were all getting our 'reality checks' about how fragile life can be, I thought it was time to make this dream a reality. With the unending support from my wife, family and friends, I've poured 3 years into this and I can't quite believe the time is now here to see what I can do up there.
So, please bear with when dropping us messages about any expeditions you're booked onto, or if you're looking to make a booking. I'll be back at the start of October ready to help you out.
Big shout out to my client Graham, who today starts his expedition to India to tackle Mount Nun (7135m)
This massive peak will take him higher than ever before, and will test his body beyond all pre-conceived limits.
Over the last year he has really dug in with his training and has done brilliantly well fitting it in around a busy life. This expedition requires a lot of heavy bag carrying as there is limited support on the mountain, so much of his training was focused on getting up and down the hills with 15kg or more.
In the gym, he's been getting his whole body prepared, with the Sled Push & Pull being a real favourite. He's also had to navigate injury and illness, but as we know, no training plan ever goes perfectly.

Slovenian Adventure Holiday - Day 5 🇸🇮
Wow, what a brilliant day! With the hike phase done, it's time to explore some more of Slovenia and try some different adventure sports.
We kicked the day off with a superb 12km Whitewater rafting experience. The river had just enough spice to it to be fun for beginners, but not so hard that it was a real fear fest! When we run the expedition, I think we will also add on the 250m zip line the company were offering too!
After the rafting, it was off to Bled. Bled is a must visit as it's just so stunning. The group saw the mountain Toboggan and we all wanted a go. We enjoyed a shirt chairlift ride to the top of the hill, from which we gained some fab views of the town and lake. The thrill seekers were brought out as they flew down the course (without braking!)
After this myself and Naomi enjoyed a 6km easy run around the Lake (highly recommended!) Whilst the rest of the group explored, ate and chilled.
Our time in Bled came to an end and we then got transported to the outskirts of the capital, Ljubljana. Tomorrow, our last full day, we get a chance to explore the city.
This expedition will definitely run again, it is amazing out here!
Slovenia Day 3
Our final day of hiking. We had a few options for the day, and our guide was keen to show us some of the more quieter trails available to us on our walk out. We enjoyed a spectacular day walking from the hut to Planina Blato, soaking up yet more epic views and sunshine. Stopping at the Shepherd's huts for a lunch of cold meat and cheese was really special too.
Tomorrow we'll head rafting! Wish us luck!
Slovenia Expedition - Day 2 🇸🇮
The weather for the day was due to be wet with thunderstorms, which us why we pushed and did the summit of Triglav on the first day.
Our day started in the cloud (apart from a brief interlude where we gained some epic views from the refuge window!) and our guide Bine had a nice route planned for us. Our objective was to reach the Vodnikov Dom hut. Halfway there, the thunder started clapping above our heads, and soon followed the heavy rain. After about 15 minutes we managed to gain shelter in the porch of a Shepherd's hut, and we witnessed a pretty awesome deluge with many flashes of lightening.
As the storm passed over we left the shelter and climbed over a pass (in the now sunny weather) before dropping down to the hut.
A brilliant, varied day, which was topped off with some excellent mountain hut macaroni!

Slovenia is out of this world!!
What a day! What a place! Such a brilliant day of hiking. Due to the upcoming weather, we had to head for Triglav today in one hit rather than spread it over two days as planned.
We started the day in the forests and soon broke out into the mountainous amphitheatre of the Julian Alps. We climbed and climbed and made it to the Kredarica hut. Here, we had a break and then took on the more exposed scramble which is laced with Via Feratta to the misty summit. We then retraced our steps to the hut where we're staying for the night.

We then have our LMG Trek Managers. Ady now has an eye watering 28 summits of Mount Toubkal under his belt, and with that comes an incredible wealth of experience. Fliss has done a cracking job assisting Ady on this trip, gaining yet more valuable experience working in Morocco, and representing too.
I can't deny the FOMO I've felt this week, not being on expedition and seeing the pictures roll in, but I knew the expedition was in super safe hands with these 4 at the helm.

What an amazing day to be in Morocco!! The atmosphere here in Marrakech as Morocco prepares for their semi-final against France is electric. Today our English, Slovakian and Welsh trekkers are Moroccan!
