After a cold, wet, windy and miserable winter, there is something really lovely about being able to look of your window and see snowdrops on the verge and lambs playing in the fields.

This week we've had our building team back on site. We always suspected there was a problem with the path down the side of the utility room which was causing damp issues. Here we have excavated down to what we believe to be the surface of the original farm yard. As ever with Anfodd, fixing one problem reveals others including here a fascinating approach to connecting the water supply. Thankfully the guys are well used to the site and its peculiarities.

Whilst we continue to wait for the insurance company decisions on the fire damage at Y Bwthyn, we have turned our efforts to a few other jobs on the very long "to-do" list. One of those is converting the old workshop/storage room into a utility room and pantry. There are a few final touches and finishing off to be done, but this week we were able to hand over the new utility room to my Mum. She now has some much needed storage and more room in her cottage. We will work on completing the pantry for us soon.

We are using the enforced downtime in our lettings to get to work on some of the ideas we have to improve the guest experience in the garden at Y Bwthyn. Yesterday we removed the lawn from part of the garden. Stay tuned to see what we do with the area. Staying true to our reuse/recycle ethos here at Anfodd we have used the turf to cover the bank in the background which runs along the guest entrance.

As its "Love Your Pet" Day, it would be wrong not to mention a key member of the team here at Anfodd - Seth. Seth's favourite pastimes include, eating, sleeping (preferably on a lap) and engaging with the local wildlife (mice and birds in particular). He isnt so keen on guest relations, so spends more of his time back of house keeping his two pets (us) in order!

Apparently it's "Ice Cream for Breakfast Day". Not sure it will catch on, but any excuse to have a tub of our homemade dairy free ice cream.

Spot the difference!
Back at the start of January we shared the news of the fire and promised to keep everyone up to date. Yep, you guessed it - no change. Frustratingly we continue to await the outcome of the claim. Lets hope the news is more positive in February as we move into the fourth month since the incident.

Another wet and windy day here at Anfodd. As we sit out the winter and cozy up in front of the fire it's time for another of our home brews. This is our second batch of homemade Limoncello. It really is very good. Might just have to have another.

Dydd Santes Dwynwen Hapus - Happy St Dwynwen's Day to all our Welsh friends and followers.
Love is in the air today here at Anfodd as we celebrate the patron saint of Welsh lovers.

Finally got around to one of those tasks we knew we needed to do, and probably should have done a lot sooner. Trees have a habit of popping up everywhere here and so we took the opportunity to move a few trees and shrubs around. This one we should have moved a couple of years ago so was quite the challenge. Hopefully it will appreciate its new home.

Really pleased with the outcome from our latest homemade gins. A zesty citrus number and a lovely herby infusion. Don't think they will be hanging around for long.

It was one of those "Anfodd" days today. You plan to do a quick task in the morning, find the machine you want to use doesn't want to work, and then spend the rest of the morning taking it apart. Thankfully this time it was successful but the two hour job ended up taking all day to complete. They never mention this on Escape to the Country!

In a previous life flatpack furniture meant a coffee table or a TV cabinet - here it generally means another wooden shed for outside storage. Todays effort is a new storage cupboard for our bags of wood pellets.

A week off work. In the past that might have meant grabbing a beach towel and a good book....instead I find myself spending a lot of time in a "supporting" role with this homemade device. Will leave you guessing exactly what was going on. Hopefully we will be able to share the fruits of our labour later in the week.
