Kicking off soon, a seven-day celebration of the wildlife and landscapes of the Outer Hebrides takes place from 24th June to 1st July, with a huge array of activities and events for all ages. Plus a Festival Fringe continuing activities to the end of July.

Whatever your idea of nature is, dolphin spotting, guided walks and talks, discovering seabirds by boat, a bumblebee safari, watersports, creative workshops or Gaelic-medium events bringing you closer to wildlife, communities from all over the islands have pulled together an amazing array of activities for this annual festival.

Make sure you check the website regularly, as more activities are being added and many need to be prebooked.

A Maldivian day in North Uist.🏝️

The rare Corncrake arrives in the island in late April and heads straight for the longest vegetation, in nettle beds, iris beds and among dry stone d***s.
This is the best time to see Corncrake in the Outer Hebrides, before the crops and other vegetation provide more cover.

The Balranald RSPB reserve on North Uist is one of the best places to see Corncrake in the Western Isles and hear their distinctive rasping call. Once a common farmland bird but the British population of this elusive is now almost exclusively restricted to the Hebridean Islands – making a birding holiday to the Outer Hebrides a must for enthusiastic ornithologists.
