Ah, hence the pencil museum in Keswick! Always thought that was a strange one!

Borrowdale is a beautiful valley in the Lake District. In the 16th century, a major deposit of graphite was discovered here, and used by locals to mark sheep. But more significantly, it would give rise to a new industry for pencils.

Enjoyed a fabulous walk to the wonderfully atmospheric Ease Gill Kirk then across to Bull Pot farm and back down the lane to Casterton before returning to Cowan Bridge. Soooo peaceful up there on the fells, a real tonic!
