One of the best views in Southern Scotland is directly from the farmhouse at Destination Balcary looking across the Solway Firth and the Lake District. There are many other great views, sights and heights providing superb viewpoints throughout Dumfries & Galloway that can be enjoyed when out and about.

The view across to Little Ross Island and the now uninhabited lighthouse is also a spectacular sight. Guests staying at Ross Bay Retreat can easily walk to this lovely viewpoint from the holiday cottages. Here are a number of the best views that can be enjoyed in and around Dumfries & Galloway.

This ancient deciduous woodland is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation and a treasure trove of natural wonders.

In spring, the wood comes alive with the sound of migratory birds such as pied flycatchers, redstarts, wood warblers and willow warblers. In May the woodland floor is spectacularly carpeted with bluebells.

Life on the farm at Destination Balcary, Meet 'Tyson' the little Charolais bull calf. There is a lot of new life arriving this Spring with many lambs and calves appearing in the fields overlooking the bay and thinking, this is quite a view! 😀
