Danielle Crothers - Boat Builder

Danielle Crothers - Boat Builder I am a qualified boat builder specialising in traditional wooden construction but able to turn my hand to modern wood and plastic as well.

I have grown up around boats, first sailing my grandparents 1940s built east coast oyster dredge, Idler. Next was my parents 1960s british folkboat, Verdandi followed by our Mk VIII Nicholson 32, Beltana. After racing and cruising these yachts through my childhood I spent 2 gap years as a full time volunteer for a sail training organisation, Morning Star Trust (http://www.morningstar.org.uk) befor

e realising that I wanted to decline my university place to study boat building. I then spent 9 months at the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis (http://www.boatbuildingacademy.com) studying a range of boat building and restoration techniques. As part of the course I was one of the main 2 people who restored a 10ft teak sailing dinghy and assisted in each of the other 7 builds of the students on my course. I graduated in June 2015 with distinctions. I swiftly set up as self employed and gained commercial work experience at Fairlie Yachts (http://www.fairlieyachts.com) before returning to Morning Star with vastly more skills than I left with! Please do not hesitate to contact me on facebook, e-mail, or phone if there is anything else you wish to know.
