The Fidelity study compared arthroscopic partial meniscectomy ('keyhole' surgery for a painful, torn knee meniscus) with sham placebo surgery ('fake' surgery where they put you under and faff around with your knee so you feel like you've had an op 😂) in people older than 35.

The people who had the sham surgery had just as good a result as the people having the actual surgery! This video explains:

Ewa Roos’ and Nina Kise’s study shows that exercise (squats, single leg squats, step ups leg press/extension and hamstring and glute work) provides as good results as arthroscopic meniscectomy. Remember – the patients who fail rehab also fail surgery. Look for other solutions – not arthroscopy – to cure that patient. Here's the link to that article:

A 2014 meta-analysis (over 26,000 participants) suggested that overuse injuries could be almost halved by strength and proprioception training. Meanwhile stretching alone was found NOT to be effective for injury prevention.

A patient came in reporting a 'clicking' sensation on the outside of his ankle when squatting, on examination he had a remarkably large range of ankle dorsiflexion (22cm on the weight bearing lunge test, when around 10cm is normal).

If you look closely the ankle joint almost appears to dislocate, you can see his Achilles' tendon flatten out across the back of the joint and the peroneal tendon partially dislocates around the lateral malleolus which is most probably causing the clicking. No history of trauma to the ankle, most probably congenital hyper mobility.

Weight loss or weight gain is a simple process that is frequently over-complicated by people.

By making subtle little changes to your diet you can lose or gain 1-2 stone in a matter of months.

The key is CONSISTENCY. A nutritional intake where you're eating comparable amounts of food every day. That's not to say you have to eat the same things every day, just the same AMOUNTS. 500-1000 kcals can then easily be added or subtracted from your intake every day to achieve gradual and healthy weight gain or loss depending on your goals.

I believe the arch enemy of weight management is disordered eating. Skipping breakfast here, working through lunch there....it completely halts your progress.

Nowhere has the old saying 'fail to prepare, and you prepare to fail' been more apt! Getting to the supermarket and planning and preparing meals in advance takes practice and discipline, but it yields great results!
