This morning I attended a 'meet and drive' protest in the city of Gloucester and was privileged to ride alongside a local farmer taking in part in the rally. The drive around Gloucester was timed to coincide with the events taking place in London and was amazingly well supported : 50 and more tractors were in the convoy and there was plenty of local support on show.

More pictures from the recent 'Great West Way' trip. Reading is an interesting first port of call on the route, and home to the excellent 'Museum of English Rural Life'. This must be one of the best collections of its type anywhere and provides a fascinating insight into England's rich agricultural heritage and history.

Just returned from a great trip organized by the team at England's Great West Way www.greatwestway.co.uk . GWW is a historic route between London and Bristol showcasing some wonderful and quintessentially English visitor experiences, including unique rural ones like Bozedown Alpacas. Real potential for development of rural interest itineraries here in rural Berkshire, or in other counties along the route.

Discover the Great West Way, a 125 mile touring route from London to Bristol on ancient routes through idyllic countryside.

A recent picture from one of our organized tours. In May we were delighted to host Iowa State University (Dept of Animal Science) for a heritage livestock breed tour of the UK. Herefords, Welsh Blacks, Herdwick Sheep, Angus and Highland cattle just some of the stand-outs. Here's the group on-site at one of their farm visits.

Early summer has arrived in the Cotswold Hills, with changeable skies and weather, and young wheat standing in the fields, like here at Aggs Hill. The English countryside always has something to offer visitors, with each season having its own unique appeal (with the possible exception of January & February!?)

Those of us lucky enough to work in the UK tourism sector can appreciate the massive importance of the British countryside and the rural visitor economy. So this being 'Back British Farming Day', it's a good time to pay tribute to all our farmers who work hard to produce our food, shape and care for our countryside and farmed landscapes, and protect the natural environment for future generations. Getting behind day is easy. You can show your love for our homegrown food and farming sector through simple actions like buying British produce, enjoying the countryside and spreading the word with friends and family.

High up here on Cleeve Common, in our home county of Gloucestershire, these hardy and magnificent-looking Belted Galloway cattle look right at home! The breed originates from south-western Scotland. At over 400 hectares, the Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its geology, habitats, botany, wildlife and archaeological interest. It is one of the most important areas of 'unimproved limestone grassland' in the country.

A recent survey has revealed which tourism experiences Britons are most looking forward to Post-Covid; the great outdoors and rural experiences feature prominently. The pandemic seems to have heightened people's appreciation of their natural surroundings: a trend that seems certain to influence travel decisions in the future. Good news for the rural visitor economy!

In the ranking created by the poll, other yearned-for experiences included drinking bitter in a picturesque Yorkshire pub and seeing a West End show.
