Not international travel as too close to home!
Wildlife photography from your bed!
My cup of tea in bed this morning was disturbed when a buzzard landed in the tree opposite with a dead weasel and then proceeded to eat it for breakfast for the next half hour before being disturbed by 2 magpies.

One of our most requested winter holidays last season was a multi-day husky safari. There really is nothing quite like the thill of dog sled safari and it's one of the best ways to explore the frozen landscapes of Lapland. Whether you are looking for an overnight adventure or a more challenging 4 or 5 day safari, now is the time to enquire!

You don't need to wait for the snows to arrive to appreciate the beauty of Swedish Lapland. Autumn is a great time to visit and offers the perfect travel window before the winter chill takes hold. Take time to explore the cobblestoned streets of Gamla Stan in stunning Stockholm before heading further north to paddle crystal clear waters, hike with the huskies and cosy up at nightfall under the autumn auroras.

So our adventure continues. We had fun with some leopards the last few days and this was taken with an Infra Red modified camera. I use infra red cameras when the light is quite hard for colour as I love the detail it gives. I used it here because I wanted to take something different than most photographers do here. A beautiful image and sometimes the lack of colour enhances the shot as it focuses the mind. More to come and a cool tour next year!

NEW - Sri Lanka is live on our website.

Let us plan your arrange your next holiday to this remarkable teardrop in the Indian Ocean.

The diversity of wildlife is incredible with many endemic species and fabulous leopard and whale encounters. With our experts in Sri Lanka we can guide you on a safari or a specialists tour, for example for bird watching, butterflies, frogs or general herpetology.

Sri Lanka has seen off some hard times and now is the perfect time to visit.

Cultural sites are equally diverse and fascinating and then of course there are beautiful beaches and fantastic food. Tropical paradise? Not far off!

Looking ahead to next year and we can't wait to get back to Greece and photograph the very characterful Pelicans. We have just 1 space left on this trip in February. Check out our website for full details.

Even one of the southernmost hotels we use for adventures in Finland had spectacular sightings of the Northern Lights last night.
In the next 3 - 4 years we are reaching maximum activity for the aurora borealis so many more great sightings guaranteed.

Viime yönä oli hienot revontulet! Jos sait niistä kuvan niin postaa alle kommentteihin oma otoksesi, ja ihastellaan yhdessä 😍

Last night we had a clear sky and then the Aurora Borealis hit the sky with an amazing show! If you spotted them and got a photo, post yours in the comments below. Let’s admire them together 😍

A couple of frame grabs from the film clips I am processing from a reconnaissance trip to Sri Lanka over the Easter period. First is a large male leopard in the remote Kumana National Park and the second a young toque macaque monkey searching for breakfast within the ancient city ruins at Polonnaruwa. You can enjoy a fascinating and educational walk with a research primatologist here among macaques and langur monkeys completely at ease. Their home is the set for many films and documentaries thanks to their habituation to scientists and the BBC are filming there at present.
On that note, film crews bring in much needed dollars to the country but nowhere near as much as tourism which is a tremendous revenue earner for this small island nation. Sri Lanka seems stuck in a vicious cycle at present. I heard many times from hoteliers that tourists were cancelling trips because of the strife the country is going through, yet it needs tourism. Suffice to say we found no problems as a family travelling throughout the land and would encourage others to travel to help break this cycle that has been ongoing since 2019 and at present looks set for another year because of a little bad press about peoples using their right to protest peacefully.

Asian elephant at the start of the southwest monsoon season, Sri Lanka.

Yes, Sri Lanka - I guess it is getting a lot of poor press at the moment, but after 2 years of pandemic this wonderful country with very hospital peoples relies on tourism and right now desperately needs your dollars. I am here with my young family and have a driver and a guide (plus a young trainee who is just great with the kids). There have been no problems with getting fuel despite the long queues the locals suffer. I did a hotel inspection today, I won't say where but it was a small property with just 7 rooms which opened in 2019, the time of the Colombo Hotel bombing. After that came 2 years of pandemic and the consequences of that is, as I said, a country short of $$$. Talking to the owner he has now in the last month taken $22,000-worth of cancellations for July and August alone from Brits and other Europeans who are worried about travelling. Vicious circle that is truly not deserved. Book your holiday with confidence and travel. The biodiversity of this country is immense, enough to sate the appetite of any nature enthusiast, and combined with the cultural sites and beaches makes this a superb island destination.

Birders may know this the hardest of endemic birds to find in Sri Lanka. Our guide of 33 years experience has only seen it around 10 times. Our first bird seen in the rainforest of Sinharaja on arrival, Sri Lankan Bay Owl. Back of camera photo.
