Anyone who has stayed with us recently will have become aquatinted with the rather temperamental main door to the Drill Hall. It has served the building faithfully for many years but needed some major TLC. Favouring the restoration of the original door over replacing with a modern equivalent, we are so happy with how it’s turned out- what a difference!
And what’s more, we now have a brand new electronic entry system- a perfect combination of modern tech without losing the historic charm of our very special building ❤️

Two years ago we bought some seeds, cell trays and a sack of compost, and began growing flowers to give to our guests. It’s been a labour of love, but our little garden is now awash with Canterbury Bells, Sweet Williams and Snap Dragons, and it bring us such joy to leave these little arrangements of flowers for each of our lovely guests ❤️

Exactly two years ago we launched No 9, our second Penthouse, and yesterday it reached the magic 100 reviews on booking.com. Spooky timing! Huge thank you to everyone that has taken the time to leave a review after their stay-it makes a huge difference to us as a small business, and we LOVE to read them! ❤️

Well that’s it- our final changeover before Christmas is done, and both Penthouses are all ready to welcome the guests staying with us over the festive period 🎄

Time to down tools and enjoy a few days off with family, but not before wishing all our guests, past and present, a very Merry Christmas. We are so grateful for your support 🎅

So thankful to our lovely neighbour who took these breathtaking photos and sent them to us.

We don’t often get to see our beautiful building by the light of a crescent moon, but it makes us fall in love with it just that little bit more 🌙

For us, Christmas is a bit of a big deal. Each year we like to add something new to our Christmas decorations, and this year it’s advent calendars!🎄
Both penthouses now have a reusable calendar which will be filled with a selection of treats for you to open during your stay ❤️
We’ve got lots of ideas for home baked goodies so watch this space! 🎅

As you can imagine, we do A LOT of washing 🧺

We’re always looking for ways to be some more eco-friendly, and pleased to say we’ve now switched to make our washing detergents plastic free. No more big plastic bottles of liquid or softener 🙌🌏
It takes up way less room in the cupboard too, and smells amazing- win win! 😊🌸

A little bit of experimenting today for a new Christmas edition fudge for our welcome baskets 🎄 Nothing says Christmas like a Chocolate Orange, right?! We couldn’t decide what would work best- using whole pieces or chopping them up so tried a bit of both. Answer- both are delicious! 😋🎅

Last week we saw the first guest book in No 9 completely filled, which means it’s time for a new one!

There’s something so satisfying about opening up those crisp white sheets, and we can’t wait to read what will fill them over the coming year….

The first one in a new book is always special, and this was no different- amazing to hear the homemade fudge from our welcome baskets getting some love-thank you guys 🥰❤️

We can hardly believe the garden is still giving us these beauties to leave for our guests, in November! We reckon they might be some of the last though until the spring….

It may not have felt like it yesterday it the throes of the storm, but Autumn is a great time for walking and exploring all that beautiful Chester has to offer. We’ve bought a new book for guests in Number 9 to use during their stays with us, and it looks right at home with all our other guides. Enjoy! 🍁🍂🍀🌈
