π π Time for a Different Adventure!
Hey there fellow adventurers!
If youβve peered into the GlobeBusters website lately, you might have noticed a curious absence β yup, the tours and expeditions have taken a hiatus.
For a solid quarter-century, weβve been riding the world. It all kicked off in the late nineties, and two crazy souls named Kevin & Julia Sanders (thatβs us!) packed up our trusty 1989 BMW R80GS and set off from North America all the way down to Ushuaia, Argentina. This initial foray into overland travel led to two Guinness World Records for Fastest Motorcycle Circumnavigation of the World (2002) and Fastest Trans Americas by Motorcycle (2003). We were indeed the βGlobeBustersβ, a name that we have kept to this day.
Our grand vision was to spread the joy of motorcycle travel across continents and in 2004, GlobeBusters officially became a thing. Trans Am 2005, saw us embark on a wild journey from Alaska to Patagonia, along with 11 riders, Jeff the Van Man and Adam the camera guy, filming for Nat Geo to record the thrills and spills.
Since then, we have ridden with thousands of customers on six continents, visited over 75 countries, travelled millions of miles and even filmed "London to Beijing" with Adam (again!). Along the way, an incredible GlobeBusters Community took shape, proving that great adventures are even better shared.
In 2022, our son Rhys Lawrey joined GlobeBusters full time, bringing a couple of Guinness World Records of his own. The plan was for Rhys to take the reins but as life often does, plans change, and Rhys is now following his passion for media and film in motorcycle travel. We couldnβt be prouder.
So why the sudden halt in our tour line-up? Well, Rhys is blazing his own trail and sadly, the current geopolitical situation is volatile and about as predictable as the British weather. As a regulated British tour operator, some of our routes are just not possible now and others are subject to border changes and closures at short notice. Then on a personal note, we are getting that bit older too and we've other life goals still to achieve. So after a lot of soul searching, we've decided to hit the pause button on our epic rides.
We owe a debt of gratitude to our phenomenal team, for their endless professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment. Hats off to Pete, Dom, Tiffany, Darran, Paul, Craig, Barbara, Ted, Boonie, Simon and those who went before. Around the world, weβve built a great network of people, all of whom have helped in the success of every trip, too many to name individually, but each of whom added that special bit of magic. Thank you so much. And for the past 10 years, we are truly grateful to our rock-solid partners, Triumph Motorcycles who have been by our side with awesome adventure bikes.
But most importantly, a huge thanks to you, the intrepid souls who took a leap of faith into the unknown - it would not have happened without you. Itβs been a wild ride, with highs and lows, laughter and tears, elation and struggle . . . and a few naked swims and plenty of M&M (meat & malbec) along the way! Together we've created memories that'll last a lifetime.
So whatβs happening now? Personally, we are not hanging up our helmets, but planning our own escapade - another South American ride is already afoot, with only ourselves to look after and a 60th birthday celebration. And although weβve already crossed China nine times before, thereβs still an itch to leave the Ace CafΓ© to ride east to Asia again along the Silk Road, maybe once again with company . . .
Over the next few months, weβll be revamping the website and offering up some bespoke travel consultancy, off the shelf routes, travel workshops and some one-off motorcycle events too (hint: maybe that ride to China!).
To all of you who have been a part of the GlobeBusters Journey β from our incredible team to our amazing customers β we canβt thank you enough. Itβs been one heck of a ride and remember, βItβs not a holiday, itβs an adventure!β
