Stage 7 of the Tour de France Femmes was our first mountain stage. The weather was a mixture of warm sunshine this morning with rain towards the end. This did cool us down for the final climb into Le Grand-Bornard. The scenery today was spectacular with the most amazing descent into beautiful French towns and villages. This was the longest stage of the tour, we cycled 118 miles with 10200 ft of elevation.
I had not cycled in the mountains before and this was also my longest ride and elevation gain. The experience was amazing once again with the whole team successfully completing the stage. We now wait in anticipation of our final day.

‘Stage 6 of the Tour de France Femmes, 100 miles of rolling hills. It was an awesome route with some beautiful scenery! The weather was almost perfect, blue skies and a nice breeze so we didn’t overheat! The hills were a great way to get used to climbing before the mountains to come…!

So today we cycled stage 5 of the Tour de France Femmes. It was a fantastic day full of rolling hills with some quick descents. The terrain and the weather made this stage easier to cope with than stage 4 - it was about 15 degrees cooler today - far less energy sapping!
Infact the weather today was rather like the U.K. as was the scenery. Some of the roads through pine forests reminded me of cycling in the Highlands and at other points I could have been back home riding the lanes of Sussex. The rain stayed away until the last 10km when torrential rain and flash floods appeared - at least my bike and the kit got a good wash! All in all a top day and great to be part of the team.

Riders Story

Stage 4, what a day!

It was quite a change to the last 3 stages that were very flat, as today we hit the hills with some classic climbs that are part of the Amstel Gold Race before rolling into Belgium.

Stunning scenery as we climbed and then descended but it was very hot reaching 40 degrees in some places.
We even finished with a fun sprint to finish the stage.
The crew were fantastic and really looked after us in the hot weather.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Another beautiful day cycling on the Dutch cycle paths enjoying the scenery and sunshine, including plenty of windmills!

A second day of flat roads preparing us for the hilly ones to come, of which there are plenty!

It was amazing to get to watch the start of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, definitely made it feel real.

Where does the money go?

All proceeds will go to Cure Leukaemia’s Trial Acceleration Programme (TAP) which aids blood cancer patients all over the UK. The Andy Cook Cycling team is currently supporting a group of amateur cyclists on taking on the gruelling challenge of riding the entire Tour de France route one week ahead of the pros!

All donations and support is greatly appreciated.

Some nice words from Rhia & Izzy, the incredible Sports Therapists for

From Rhia: “our days start before the ride taping anyone who needs it and answering any questions. Throughout the ride at rest stops we check in on the riders and perhaps provide treatment if they need it. At the end of the day the real work starts! We give each rider sports therapy treatment to make sure they’re ready to ride the next day”

From Izzy: “Tour 21 has been an amazing event to be involved with over the last few years as a sports therapist. Nothing compares to being able to help the riders through their inevitable aches and pains at the end of the day, as well as being in awe of the huge challenge they are doing for Cure Leukaemia.”

Another very tough stage completed today, well done all.
