John Kyrle High School - Bus 19 - Bus Update

Unfortunately, since reverting back to our original timetable for Bus 19, the Drybrook Road has since been closed again for an Emergency, burst water main.

Therefore for the next two days we will be reverting to our revised timetable/route as per the past few weeks. This can be found here:

John Kyrle High School Bus Updates

Bus 19 - Mitcheldean/Drybrook/Cinderford

As of this afternoon, Bus 19 will revert back to the original timetable, due to the Drybrook Road now being open, and confirmation given that it will not close again.

Bus 18 - Bream/Coleford/Lydbrook

Due to the Stowfield Road unexpectedly being closed, with no Through Traffic, the bus will have to divert around the closure. The bus will still serve all stops, although, will divert via Cats Hill, Ruardean and Joy’s Green to reach Lydbrook. The bus will proceed to The Forge Hammer, turn around and follow the normal route from this point forward. With this in mind, the bus may arrive slightly later at all stops.

We are awaiting confirmation from Gloucestershire County Council of how long the road is expected to be closed. The original work order would suggest that this was only supposed to be traffic lights, with access maintained, however from this morning the road has been closed.

We were pleased to have been invited to a Town Council meeting following a request from a John Kyrle High School student who uses our services, advocating for a new bus shelter on St. Whites Road.

It was a valuable opportunity for us to provide our expertise and recommendations on the placement of the new shelter, with careful consideration of the needs of all passengers. We believe this new shelter significantly enhances the comfort and safety of waiting, boarding, and alighting from the school bus.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Cinderford Town Council and Gloucestershire County Council on potential future transport initiatives that will further benefit the Cinderford community.

Cinderford Town Council wishes to thank Gloucestershire County Council, Forestry England and Grindles Coaches for their assistance in the installation of the St Whites Road bus shelter following a request for a shelter from a school pupil.

Our History

Coaching is an industry that has been associated with the Grindle family for many many years, over 90 in fact.

It all dates back to the mid 1920’s when Roy Grindle first introduced charabancs, although at least two generations of family had been involved in making deliveries by pony and trap before this time. Roy and Brother Percy set up separate businesses on either side of Woodside Street, Cinderford. There was some rivalry but it was all friendly! Percy owned three coaches as well as some removal vans whereas Roy focused on just the coaches.

Roy was to buy his first coach in 1936. He contributed to the war effort by taking workers to the nearby Hurricane factory in Brockworth, Gloucester. Due to this he was allocated 6 Bedford utility vehicles to support and expand the fleet to 15 vehicles.

In 1949 Roy’s son, Harry Grindle, passed his test and joined the company. By this time Roy Grindle and Sons had started operating their own tour programme; the first tour being an 8 day trip to Scotland. The first continental trip was a private to Spain in 1953 and by 1956 they took bookings and successfully ran a tour to Switzerland. Harry eventually took over the family business in 1962 when Roy, his father, died. By 1963-64 the business really started to take off and by the late 1960’s was going flat out, buying a new coach every year.
