JKH18: Bream/Coleford/Lydbrook
Issue/s: Road Closed - B4234, Upper Lydbrook + Potential Flooding of Stowfield Road/Bishopswood

After inspecting Stowfield Road/Bishopswood we have decided that we will use this route this afternoon. Although the river level is high and standing water is present, the road is passable. Hopefully this will help the bus stay to its normal timings as much as possible.

B4234, Upper Lydbrook is likely to remain closed for some time, therefore, we will divert using Hangerberry, New Road. Likewise to this morning, we will not be serving Lydbrook, Jovial Colliers Inn.

John Kyrle High School - Services Update - 12:48 - 25/11/2024

25/11/2024 - PM Operation

Good Afternoon. Firstly, thank you for everybody's understanding and patience this morning. We're glad to report that everybody got delivered to school safely.

Below are plans for this afternoon's transport home.

JKH18: Bream/Coleford/Lydbrook
Issue/s: Road Closed - B4234, Upper Lydbrook + Potential Flooding of Stowfield Road/Bishopswood

The bus will follow broadly the same route as it did this morning, avoiding Lower Stowfield Road, Bishopswood etc. This morning the road was reported as being impassable. We are monitoring River Levels and the River Wye is still rising and likely to flood. Therefore, we feel it safer to avoid this road for today.

B4234, Upper Lydbrook is likely to remain closed for some time, therefore, we will divert using Hangerberry, New Road. Likewise to this morning, we will not be serving Lydbrook, Jovial Colliers Inn.

We will publish ongoing arrangements for this route shortly.

Please expect students to arrive later home this afternoon, whilst the bus navigates the diversion.

JKH19: Cinderford/Drybrook/Mitcheldean
Issue/s: Road Closed - No Known Issues

JKH19 is expected to operate as normal.

JKH25: Cinderford/Parkend
Issue/s: Road Closed - B4234, Upper Lydbrook + Potential Flooding of Stowfield Road/Bishopswood

B4234, Upper Lydbrook is likely to remain closed for some time, therefore, we will divert as we did this morning to serve Ruardean, The Square and Joy's Green, Forge Hill Turn before continuing to Parkend, Forest of Dean Caravans to follow the normal route.

We will publish ongoing arrangements for this route shortly.

Please expect students to arrive later home this afternoon, whilst the bus navigates the diversion.

25/11/2024

Lydbrook Primary School - Services Update - 07:24 - 25/11/2024

As it stands at the moment we have taken the decision not to operate Joy's Green to Lydbrook Primary School. This is due to the village currently being inaccessible from Church Road.

Apart from there not being a safe place for the coach to turn, we do not deem it safe to drop students off in anywhere other than the normal drop-off location.

If this changes, we will keep you updated.

24/11/2024

Haberdashers' Monmouth School - Services Update - 21:28 - 24/11/2024

Haberdashers' Monmouth School have announced that the school will remain closed tomorrow, therefore, we will not be operating Bus 10 or Bus 11.

24/11/2024

John Kyrle High School - Services Update - 23:06 - 24/11/2024

JKH18: Bream/Coleford/Lydbrook
Issue/s: Road Closed - B4234, Upper Lydbrook

JKH18 will not be able to turn left into Lydbrook from Mireystock Crossroads due to the road being closed. Therefore, this route will divert via Hangerberry New Road. Students that board at Lydbrook, Jovial Colliers will need to make their way to Lydbrook, Central Stores.

There is every chance that the river levels may rise overnight making the B4234, Stowfield Road impassable. We will monitor this in the morning, and if so, the bus will divert, potentially causing some delay.

JKH19: Cinderford/Drybrook/Mitcheldean
Issue/s: Road Closed - Valley Road, B4227 - Outside Forest View Park

JKH19 will not be able to use Valley Road between stops Cinderford, Hastings and Cinderford, by Brook. Therefore, it will divert via Hastings Road, Somerset Road and Victoria Street to continue its route from Cinderford, by Brook. Coach may be delayed, therefore we advise students to please wait at stops until the coach has arrived, unless informed otherwise.

JKH25: Cinderford/Parkend
Issue/s: Road Closed - B4234, Upper Lydbrook and Jovial Colliers/Church Road

JKH25 will pick up at Cinderford, by Woodlands on the opposite side of the road to normal.

JKH25 will not be able to carry straight on into Lydbrook from Mireystock Crossroads. Therefore, to serve stops: Joys Green, Forge Hill Turn and Ruardean, The Square, the bus will have to divert.

The diversion will take the coach via: A4136, Morse Road, High Street, Townsend. The coach will undoubtedly be late to these stops by approximately 20 minutes, therefore we advise students to please wait at stops until the coach has arrived, unless informed otherwise.

We urge everybody to please take care whilst making your way to bus stops in the morning. Please look out for any more updates. We will endeavour to keep everybody as informed as possible.

Our History

Coaching is an industry that has been associated with the Grindle family for many many years, over 90 in fact.

It all dates back to the mid 1920’s when Roy Grindle first introduced charabancs, although at least two generations of family had been involved in making deliveries by pony and trap before this time. Roy and Brother Percy set up separate businesses on either side of Woodside Street, Cinderford. There was some rivalry but it was all friendly! Percy owned three coaches as well as some removal vans whereas Roy focused on just the coaches.

Roy was to buy his first coach in 1936. He contributed to the war effort by taking workers to the nearby Hurricane factory in Brockworth, Gloucester. Due to this he was allocated 6 Bedford utility vehicles to support and expand the fleet to 15 vehicles.

In 1949 Roy’s son, Harry Grindle, passed his test and joined the company. By this time Roy Grindle and Sons had started operating their own tour programme; the first tour being an 8 day trip to Scotland. The first continental trip was a private to Spain in 1953 and by 1956 they took bookings and successfully ran a tour to Switzerland. Harry eventually took over the family business in 1962 when Roy, his father, died. By 1963-64 the business really started to take off and by the late 1960’s was going flat out, buying a new coach every year.
