It's #foodiefriday and did you know that chocolate is made right here in Cleethorpes?
In 2008, Duffy Sheardown bought a couple of 500g bags of cocoa beans, while on holiday in Guatemala, with the idea of teaching himself to make chocolate 🍫
Inspired and up to a challenge - with Cadbury's being the only company in England to make its chocolate directly from cocoa beans - 18 months later he rented a small factory becoming the first small artisan bean-to-bar chocolate company in the UK.
Duffy's Chocolate is another example of the fantastic producers and food suppliers in North East Lincolnshire.
Duffy's Chocolate is on our North East Lincolnshire Food Map which is chock full (excuse the pun!) of great foodies across the borough. The map was produced by @tastelincs for us.

As it's Clean Beaches Week we thought the above quote is very apt. This well known quote originated from Chief Seattle, a Native American who came from the Duwamish Tribe in the state of Washington. This mindset has been adopted by locals and lovers of the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area who established the Leave Only Footprints program which exists to raise awareness and participation in Leave No Trace behaviors and other green initiatives.
Here in Cleethorpes our beaches are wonderful places to restore your wellbeing. Let’s keep it beautiful and leave only footprints 👣
Let’s celebrate our beautiful beaches and act to ensure they stay clean, safe, and beautiful for future generations.
✅If everyone were to collect even a small carrier bag of debris from the beach and dispose of it appropriately this can make a difference.
✅There are regular beach cleans, please do get involved. There is one scheduled for 20 July by Cleethorpes Beachcare Group.
✅ Reduce your plastic use. Opt for reusable items instead of single-use plastics. Bring your own water bottle, utensils, and shopping bags when heading to the beach.

🍩Did you know it’s National Doughnut Week? It’s a special week where businesses including bakers, coffee shops, and offices take part and sell lots of delicious doughnuts to raise funds for The Children’s Trust. 🍩Jam doughnuts have been voted No 1. doughnut favourite in the UK. Of course here in Cleethorpes we love a doughnut! 🍩These sweet sugary rings can be purchased along the seafront freshly made and deliciously hot! 🍩It’s claimed that an early version of a deep fried doughnut originated in Ancient Rome when people started frying dough and putting sugar or cinnamon on it. 🍩One of the earliest mentions of “dough-nut” was in Washington Irving‘s 1809 book A History of New York, from the Beginning of the World to the End of the Dutch Dynasty: “Balls of sweetened dough, fried in hog’s fat, and called dough-nuts, or olykoeks.” 🍩Happy doughnut week!🍩

This week’s event focus is all about the trains!🚂🚆🚞
Immingham’s annual model railway show takes place this weekend, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May.
The 2024 show features 15 high quality layouts from around the country in a range of gauges. Some of the layouts have featured in national railway magazines and all of them demonstrate the high level of skill which can be achieved in modelling.
In addition the two very large museum layouts will also be on display, showing Immingham Locomotive Shed in the late 1950’s and Barnetby to Wrawby Junction in the present day, showing the busy freight traffic on this route.
The event is perfect for train enthusiasts, model railway hobbyists and families alike.

📍Saturday 11 May, 10am-5pm and Sunday 12 May 10am-4pm
Refreshments available, free parking. Entry £5 each, accompanied children under 16 free.
