Every year on June 17th, World Crocodile Day highlights the plight of endangered crocodiles and celebrates this creature that has roamed our planet for millions of years.

Threats such as habitat destruction, pollution, climate change, and illegal hunting pose significant challenges to the survival of crocs.

There is a traditional story which explains the (less than glamorous) look of the tsessebe and its rapid speed.

During creation, the Creator distributed ornaments to each animal. The tsessebe arrived late and annoyed the Creator by begging for horns. In response, the Creator stuck two sticks on the tsessebe's head. The other animals laughed, prompting the Creator to offer tsessebe a wish. Tsessebe asked to be the fastest antelope on the plains, forever ending the teasing!

The kudu is a type of antelope and notoriously hard to approach. Highly alert, kudu's use their large ears to detect danger and males have long twisting horns which they use to spar with during the courtship season.

With only 118,000 kudus remaining in the wild, kudus have a near threatened conservation status. They are mostly spotted in southern African parks.

This is such an achievement and we are still helping with this project.

The building of Mhlumeni High School started as a plan in 2016 and a partnership was formed between Mhlumeni Community, Sense Earth and St Helen and St Katharine School (SHSK), Abingdon, UK. Every 2 years students raise money to go towards this High School construction.

In 2018 SHSK students revamped the Pre-School and built bricks for the High School classrooms.
In 2020 we built the first 3 classrooms despite covid, part funded by SHSK students who could not visit.
In 2021 the ablution block was built.
In 2022, the admin block was built by SHSK students.
Currently 3 more classrooms are going up and also a science block.

Mhlumeni High School was officially opened in June 2022 with 16 students.
In 2023 - 72 students enrolled.
In 2024 - 124 students enrolled.

Among the hot and mesmerising landscapes of Damaraland, Namibia, lies a sanctuary called Mowani Mountain Camp. Nestled among colossal ochre boulders, the camp seamlessly blends into the surroundings.
