The beautiful Borana people of northern Kenya. Even though they are Cush*tic, they have a close relationship with the Waata people, one of Kenya’s original hunter gatherer cultures. Living in the remote north eastern part of Kenya they are very rarely visited and indeed most of their range is far from the beaten tourist tracks even in their native Ethiopia. We meet them on the Wild Images Photo Tours expeditions to northern Kenya which is one of the most culturally comprehensive trips you can make in the country. To join us in 2026 please message me.

Ancient culture in an ancient land. The incredible El Molo people of Kenya’s Lake Turkana are thought to have thrived o the shore of the Jade Sea since around 1000BC. They are the smallest ethnic group in Kenya and their culture is in extreme danger of extinction in my lifetime. Wild Images Photo Tours operates the most culturally diverse photography tour on offer in northern Kenya and our expertise in this region is unrivalled. To join our next expedition please message me.

Spending sunset with a family of El Molo women was a highlight of my last trip to Turkana. I’m looking forward to seeing them again soon ❤️

The fascinating N'Jemps people of northern Kenya are sometimes affectionately known as 'the aquatic Maasai' for their unique existence on the islands of Lake Baringo, where they keep livestock and live from them, alongside the fish they catch from uniquely designed papyrus boats. Exploring their island villages and the special relationship these people have with African Fish Eagles is a wonderful start to the Wild Images Photo Tours trip, exploring the cultures of northern Kenya. I will be returning in a couple of weeks with some very special guests and in 2026 this incredible expedition will be led by Ingrid Koedood. I am very excited to be going back!

I loved this Tuareg lady I met at Sabiba in Algeria last year. To me she had an almost ethereal presence and in some ways she reminded me of Frida Kahlo. Sabiba has recently happened again in Algeria and watching the photos and videos taken by friends who were there when I wasn’t has left me feeling a bit ‘Algeria-sick’ 🥲. My 2025 tour to Algeria booked out within hours of announcing it at Wild Images. There are only a few spaces left on my 2026 expedition. If you would like to join me please message me

For as much as Bangladesh is photogenic, the food there is wonderful! We all got hooked on the sweet yoghurt that became a staple for us at every meal. It was simply delicious! So when the chance came to see how it was made we jumped at it. Inside the yoghurt factory, remote Bangladesh. There are just two places remaining on our Wild Images Photo Tours tour to Bangladesh. It is one of the most incredible photographic journeys of my career! Join us!

Oddly some of my most favourite bird encounters during my Wild Images Photo Tours trip to Costa Rica ended up being with birds that are not always well seen there, or overlooked by photographers in favour of toucans, hummingbirds and parrots etc. Here are some creatures who stole my heart for their behaviour and the way we simply encountered them. We have only one place left on our tour in 2025. To join us please message me.

When you cook dinner tonight, where do you think your packet of dried chillies comes from? They could be from many places but there’s a fair chance they will come from Bangladesh. The expansive chilli fields and drying courtyards in northern Bangladesh are so large they can be seen on earth from satellite. It is fascinating to explore this colourful harvest on foot and by drone with . Join us in 2025!

MY AFGHAN STORIES - Timorshah, the bird seller of Kabul. The centuries-old tradition of keeping caged birds in Afghanistan has had a peppered and convoluted past. During the time the Taliban originally occupied the country, keeping birds captive was forbidden (along with another popular past time of kite fighting) as they deemed it to be 'un-islamic'. Rooted in tradition, in which kings kept both hunting birds for sport and singing birds--usually confined in ornamental gardens--to entertain guests, the practice long ago spread to even the poorest of Afghan homes.

But to the fundamentalist Taliban, bird song was a distraction from the only meritorious song, the reading of the Koran. And with a sort of Islamic twist on animal rights, the regime decreed that God intended birds to be free. Talibs strode through bird markets forcing shopkeepers to open their cages. When the Talibs found people who kept birds at home, they forced the owners to free those too.

When the Taliban fell in 2002, Afghan people began, once again to sell caged birds - but mostly for singing and their blessings.

Now that the Taliban have regained control of Afghanistan, it's hard to know if this industry will continue. For now at least, the traders of birds in Ka Faroshi, the oldest bird market in Kabul, seem to be able to continue their traditions, despite them having a fragile future.

Personal Note: I had wanted to visit Afghanistan for as long as I can remember. I cannot define what sparked my initial interest in visiting but I tried for eight years (unsuccessfully) to get work in the country before I met my husband. Although we travelled through Afghanistan with very few issues, travel there is definitely not for the nervous or inexperienced traveller. It is an extremely beautiful country with wonderful people but it also has a very precarious security situation. If anyone reading my posts feels encouraged to visit but doesn't know where to start, please send me a PM.

FAREWELL AFGHANISTAN - what a confronting and profoundly thought provoking country to travel in. I am in Dubai, on my way home from Kabul after two weeks in one of the most war torn and beautiful countries on earth. I have so many stories to tell! In the coming weeks, rather than posting multiple photos as Afghan spam, I will post photos individually in an attempt to give you some background and context to the story each image portrays.

I am tired and I feel sad to have left. I also feel a little relieved to be returning home to the relative safety of England. I shall miss Afghanistan very very much.

This is the beautiful Sakhi Shrine of Kabul at sunset, heavily guarded by the T@liban. We sat drinking tea here with some of the local worshippers and this was our view. It was so moving.

More photos when I’m home.

Some of the wonderful mammals we met in Costa Rica including my best encounter ever with a troupe of Geoffroy's Spider Monkeys that had numerous family groups and a very bold youngster. We saw three species of bats on this trip (one was new to me), sloths, coatis and agouti. We saw sooo much!

After fantastic birds, Costa Rica's frogs are probably the second most wanted animals to photograph there. But what do you do when you have seen so many frog photos that you don't think you can possibly come up with a new angle? Time to get biologically creative :-). We not only saw the iconic Red-eyed Tree Frog (which undoubtedly is one of the most beautiful frogs in the world), but we met quite a number of other species including the extremely rare Ghost Glass Frog. Here are some of my frog favourites from our tour. To join us on our 2025 trip to this rainforest wonderland, a link to our tour is here: https://www.wildimages-phototours.com/photography-tours/costa-rica-wildlife-photography-tour/

Pick your poison! :-D. I know I'm probably in the minority here but I LOVE snakes! Costa Rica had so many incredibly beautiful ones I struggled to pick a favourite. We spent a morning with these beautiful creatures on a carefully considered conservation program. I thought all of these snakes were amazing but if I had to choose one that I liked the most it would be the Brown Vine Snake who, when he opened his mouth, flashed a stunning navy blue colouration. Which one do you like the best?

Toucan Tuesday :-D. I was warned on our recent trip to Costa Rica that we might not see any toucans because of the abundance of wild fruit in the country. It's true, we didn't see as many as on previous tours but we did have some incredible encounters with them which defied the local advice we received. This all came down to a bit of luck and a lot of persistence in the end. Want to know what it's like to travel with Wild Images Photo Tours to Costa Rica? Our tour report is now online (where you can see more of my photos). We have limited space now on our 2025 tour led by wonderful Virginia Wilde. Costa Rica is truly a rainforest Garden of Eden!

Hands down this is my favourite photo from my recent trip to Costa Rica with Wild Images Photo Tours. Capturing Resplendent Quetzal in flight is never easy as they tend to live in places with challenging light making fast shutter shots difficult. Thankfully we had a few chances for shots like this and why I like this image so much is that the tiny bit of light we had caught the sylph-like streamer tails of this male as he was bringing a caterpillar to his chick. We have two places left for Costa Rica in 2025. Join us!

Wildest Costa Rica! During my recent trip to Costa Rica we spent some time in Caño Negro close to the border of Nicaragua. The recent lack of rains in Costa Rica was both a curse and blessing all at once. The lower river levels allowed us to see some truly beautiful riverine species and the stillness was incredible for reflections!

There are so many highlights on a Costa Rica wildlife photography tour that sorting through all your photos can feel a bit overwhelming. While many trips focus on all the pretty birds, frogs, snakes and mammals that call Costa Rica home, at Wild Images Photo Tours we look for the truly wild side of the country, even its insects! On this trip, we met this adorable little fellow. Friends, I am pleased to introduce you to the Fine-dendiculated Mantis or Peruvian Shield Mantis. This little guy was one of two insects (the other deserves a post of his own soon) that our group loved during our trip. He is designed to look like a leaf but what I really loved about him was the authentic 'touch' on his right wing that looked like a part of the leaf was dying. Truly a wonderful trick of nature and a very special thing to see and photograph. We now have only two places left on our Costa Rica tour in 2025. Please message me or the Wild Images office if you are keen to join us. It's an amazing trip!

The world’s rainforests are some of the most biodiverse and beautiful places I work in. Travelling in Costa Rica recently I had no full time naturalist guide with me. Instead I teamed up with some of the most extraordinary local guides who worked tirelessly and passionately to simply protect their patch. Between us we showed our Wild Images Photo Tours group some of the rarest species and behaviours you could witness in the wilds of Costa Rica’s rivers and rainforests. I have so many photos and stories to tell it’s hard to know where to start but here’s a tiny and special one. Did you know that tiny Strawberry Poison Frog mothers carry their precious tadpoles on their backs? We had a privileged encounter with these tiny forest jewels doing just that. It was incredible. We have only 3 places left on our 2025 tour to Costa Rica. To join us please message me.

Gharial is a critically endangered crocodile, which was once found in large rivers across Southern Asia. Having declined by 98% since the 1930s it is now confined to only a handful of places. We had the privilege of spending a lot of time with them during Mike’s recent India tour at the wonderful National Chambal Sanctuary. Their needle like teeth are perfectly adapted to catching fish and they represent no danger to humans.

This year’s India Tiger & Wildlife tour not only delivered our biggest tiger tally but our closest encounters. This was around 2 metres off Mike’s jeep. There is always something more menacing about the look in a tiger’s eye than say a lion, which we are much more used to seeing close up. Try to look like part of the jeep!

Everyone loves owls right? Here’s a gorgeous Mottled Wood Owl from Mike’s recent India Tiger & Wildlife tour. They seem to be doing well at Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. This was at one of 3 different nest sites we passed by.
